The market for SUVs keeps growing every year as more people develop interest. One of the leaders in the large SUV segment, the Chevrolet Tahoe is getting an update for the 2022 model year, bringing with it a more powerful engine and a host of new and cool features. The 2022 Tahoe promises to surpass its past performance to hold on to its leadership position in the SUV world.

The Tahoe is a luxury SUV, and the design of the new model makes this clear from every angle. Its full body and massive size give it a presence most SUVs can be envious of. However, the luxury doesn’t take away from the heart and grunt of the Tahoe. In fact, it will perform as well for transporting dignitaries as it will for hauling trailers on long road trips. There is a lot to like about the 2022 Chevy Tahoe, but these features stand out above all others.

The standard engine on the Tahoe is a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 hp and up to 383 lb-ft of Torque. However, for those that desire even more power, the Tahoe comes with the option of an expanded 6.2-liter V8 that delivers 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. With more power comes more towing capacity but also fewer miles per gallon. However, the 2022 Tahoe still manages a combined average of 21 mpg.

The drivetrain of the Tahoe is performance-focused with an already impressive engine paired with an even more impressive gearbox – the GM Hydra Matic 10-Speed Automatic Gearbox 10L80. GM describes it as a heavy-duty performance variant of their family of 10-speed, longitudinal placement gearboxes.

The higher number of gear ratios improves the engine efficiency, durability, and performance when compared to similar gearboxes with a lower number of gear ratios such as the Hydra-Matic 8 and 6-speeds gearboxes.

8 Transparent Trailer View

Towing trailers can be very difficult for driving, because of the length and the weight distribution of the trailer, but more importantly because of the obstruction of view. Like its cousin the GMC Sierra, the 2022 Tahoe comes with transparent trailer view technology, which allows the driver to see through the towed trailer by means of attachable cameras. This is in addition to 13 available camera views around the vehicle, making it almost impossible to have a dead angle when driving this luxury SUV.

The Tahoe’s infotainment system consists of all the usual that is expected in a luxury car of its caliber. However, the Tahoe takes things a step further by providing a sufficient stand-alone system that requires very little connection with your phone thanks to built-in Google capabilities. Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play are just some of the features available.

The vehicle’s Android Auto system allows you to download apps straight unto its infotainment system and accessible through its 10.2-inch touchscreen, rather than rely on the distraction of fiddling with your phone while on the wheels.

Driving over long distances can be very exhausting. Drivers have been known to lose concentration or drift off, resulting in gruesome accidents. The Tahoe comes equipped with GMC's lane keep assist technology, which uses the demarcation lines on the road to activate corrective steering and keep the vehicle in its lane when the driver seems to be adrift.

A warning beep rings out to alert the driver to take control of the vehicle if the corrective steering continues to be engaged for a period of time.

The 2022 Tahoe comes with a surround camera system that provides 13 views around the vehicle. There are front and rear cameras that help with visualizing tight spots during parking. This is supplemented by the front and rear park assist sensor which can sense obstacles up to four feet in front and eight feet behind the vehicle. A color-coded visual warning indicating the distance from the objects is displayed on screen to allow navigation, and a beeping sound that gets faster as you get closer to the obstacle completes the warning system.

Buckle to drive is a safety system developed by GM that now comes as standard in the new Chevy Suburban and Tahoe SUVs. The buckle-to-drive feature prevents shifting from "Park" when the seat belt is unbuckled. Instead, the driver is prompted to fasten the seatbelt in order to be able to shift into gear. The feature is activated in the "Teen" driver mode and can be turned on or off by using a secret PIN.

The Magnetic Ride Control (MRC) is a novel suspension technology that adapts the shock-absorbing resistance of the vehicle to the road condition in real-time. As opposed to normal mechanical components used in regular suspension and shock absorbers, the MRC uses monotube dampers filled with magnetorheological fluid.

The viscosity of the fluid is increased or decreased as may be required in reaction to the wheel forces while driving on different terrains and controlled by a set of sensors and an electronic control unit. The MRC is extremely fast and precise and makes driving in any kind of condition very comfortable.

The 2022 Tahoe is not just pretty it is tough. Its 6.2-liter V8 engine allows it the ability to tow a maximum of 8,400 pounds. With such capacity, cross-country camping trips in the summer become no problem. However, this falls short of some more powerful SUVs in its category such as the Jeep Wagoneer and the Ford Expedition capable of pulling 10,000 pounds and 9,300 pounds, respectively.
