The 2008 Porsche GT2 is dedicated to ramping up the power of its predecessors by offering a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter engine that tops out at 530 horsepower with a torque of 4500 rpm. Variously described as a power monster, and as a revolution in the design of the popular Porsche series, the 2008 GT2 essentially exists for only one reason: to impress and leave a string of dropped jaws in its wake. Wouldn’t it be enough if Porsche merely offered a stylish piece of vehicular art that took you from sitting still while you waved at your car’s admirers to 60 mph in roughly 3.5 seconds? Sure, of course it would; so why on earth did Porsche go the extra mile by also making this speed demon more fuel efficient than ever and packing it with so many incredible features?

Decreased weight and an expansion intake manifold are the keys. By eschewing all-wheel drive and introducing carbon-fiber bucket seats the 2008 GT2 runs a good forty pounds lighter. When you add Porsche’s VarioCam valve system and a super-efficient free-flow exhaust, what drivers experience is not just the thrill of a substantial increase in power, but the unexpected benefit of actually saving money at the gas pump. Even Porsche drivers deserve that break, don’t they?

Of course, all the power in the world is no good if the car can’t handle it, and that’s where Porsche’s introduction of its new Active Suspension Management (PASM) comes in. This system provides increased stability and traction, so revving up that powerful engine doesn’t feel like a ride at a theme park. Of course, if you can find a rollercoaster that tops out above the peak speed of 200 mph of this Porsche, you might want to report it because that coaster would be faster than any known ride. Here’s a few other things thing that you don’t get with a thrill ride: 325 watts of Bose stereo power delivered courtesy of a state of the art seven-channel digital amplifier, on-board computer system that offers up a wealth of vital information including how far you can go before your gas tank empties and statistics on average fuel consumption and tire pressure.

Driving the 2008 Porsche GT2 may just be the ultimate experience, combing speed, power, handling and even fuel economy. What more could you want for a base price of less than $200,000?
