The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a Gran Turismo offering from the Italians that looks so sharp you’d swear it could cut you. Since its introduction in 2004, the Scaglietti has been one of Ferrari’s most respected marquees, and it has proven itself world class in terms of both styling and performance. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti boasts a swooping fastback body and 2+2 seating configuration, allowing for occasional extra passengers. Unlike many high performance sports sedans, the extra passenger room in the Scaglietti seems like a genuine consideration and not an afterthought. However, the model did take some hits after its initial release over its extremely long nose, which some Ferrari fans considered unwieldy. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti comes off of the line at Ferrari’s boutique Modena plant, which is best known as Enzo’s former homestead. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti’s design is also a loving reference to the famous 1954 375 MM custom commissioned by Roberto Rossellini as a gift for his wife Ingrid Bergman.

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is the second Ferrari with a 100% aluminum body. Of course, this means you’ve got to keep it away from possible road salt, but it also lightens the car to maximize speed. And speaking of speed, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti boasts a naturally aspirated 5.7 liter V12 engine. If you really let it fly, the Scaglietti is capable of doing 199 miles per hours and of jumping from 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds. Transmission options for the 612 Scaglietti include either a classic manual transmission or a semi-automatic paddle shift transmission system.

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti has also been getting some serious buzz after being picked by Jeremy Clarkson, host of the BBC’s hit hot car garage Top Gear. On the Scaglietti’s episode, Clarkson raced his co-hosts from Surrey, England to Verbier, Switzerland. Clarkson lucked out and got the Scaglietti, while co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond were stuck taking trains and buses. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti won, and Clarkson came away singing its praises and playing down the car’s long nose, much to the delight of fans. Many gearheads consider a good word from Clarkson to be positively credibility-defining.

Fans of the notorious German auto-stylists HAMANN would probably be interested in checking out the 2007 HAMANN Ferrari 612 Scaglietti custom edition. This rare, exclusively styled version of the Scaglietti incorporates HAMANN’s flair for crafting aerodynamic components, all of which are fashioned out of either your choice of fiberglass or carbon-Kevlar. Additions include a new front spoiler and a new, rear-end diffuser. HAMANN also contribute their own ultra-light cross-spoke rims. Whether you go custom or keep it in factory condition, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a great choice if you’re looking for a luxury sedan that successfully blends styling and comfort.
