For years Ford has been sending their small, sophisticated, fuel efficient cars to Europe where there is a real demand for a smart mix of technology and design. Finally an American market is emerging with more savvy consumers asking for well styled, sensible vehicles.

Derrick Kuzak, Ford’s group vice president of Global Product Development says, “We’re looking at every aspect of what’s defined Ford as a small-car leader in Europe and working to build on this expertise in driving dynamics and design across a global family of Ford cars that are as exciting to drive as they are to look at.” The Verve first debuted last year in Frankfurt with only three doors but since then has grown a trunk for the Detroit Auto Show. The front end has also been updated to appear more bold and modern as well as new taillights in the rear. Ford is vague about their choice of powertrain but the logical decision would be the 1.4 liter, 4-cylynider EcoBoost engine with that advanced Powershift dual clutch transmission. A purposeful body style is more friendly than aggressive with an upper counter line curving by the pillarless side windows towards the projector LED headlamps.

Inside, the Verve is a unique blend of engineering knowledge and sculpted art. What makes this cabin so special is that it is ergonomically designed to make the controls optimally positioned. It has your standard navigation and premium sound system plus a new in-car phone structure allowing easy use for the driver. The center console even has a built in place for your MP3 player. You know that feeling when you’re trying to change a radio station, answer a phone call and turn on the air-condition cause you’re boiling alive? That’s what Ford is trying to remedy, the small things that make driving a hassle.

Your experience will not only be more pleasant and relaxed but plush and fashionable when you purchase your Ford Verve after it goes on sale in 2010.
