The Volkswagen Phaeton, the brainchild of Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Piech, was an engineering marvel. A hand assembled masterpiece, the Phaeton was capable of driving at 190 mph, in 122 degree weather, whilst maintaining an interior temperature of 72 degrees, for 24 hours. It had a four-zone draftless climate system, an on board air compressor suspension system, and a Klavier Lack paint job which gave the car a deeper shine and finish than any other production car to date. Even with everything the car boasted, Phaeton sales fell short of expectations, and VW halted the production of the Phaeton in 2006.
The Volkswagen Passat CC may just hit the target that the Phaeton missed.
Marginally larger than the current Passat, the CC measures 188.8 in. overall, but holding true to its 4-door coupe styling, stands only 55.9 in. tall, 2.0 in. shorter than the standard model.
While the Passat CC sports fastback styling, is retains a conventional rear trunk and continues on the performance oriented track with four bucket seating positions and a panoramic glass roof. European models will be equipped with a choice of 140 - or 170 - bhp 2.0-liter turbodiesels, while Stateside models will have a 200-bhp 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged four. An optional 3.6-liter V-6 will also be offered with standard all-wheel drive. Overseas, the V-6 will be rated at 300 bhp, while U.S. versions will produce 280.
VW’s utilization of a lane-departure system will debut with the CC, and unlike other lane-departure warning systems, will actually correct the course of the vehicle if it senses it has strayed off its intended course. Electric chassis control and a park assist feature that will automatically steer the vehicle into a parallel parking space will also be offered.
Prices are yet to be announced, but will more than likely make or break the CC. To low and it may phase out sales of the already popular Passat, to high, and like the Phaeton, the CC could price itself into automotive irrelevancy.

I really like this car, and from what I hear, the pricing is not going to be too bad. Good luck VW!
