It's been 20 years since the first installment of the iconic Fast and Furious movie saga came out, and nobody ever thought it would ever grow into a massive franchise that would span nine sequels in two decades. Thanks to its success, it also played a huge role in shaping the automotive landscape we see today.

We see more and more cars, especially the JDM ones, featured in the first few installments of the movie franchise become increasingly expensive and pull a premium price on auction sites. Furthermore, some of the cars have even gained a cult following in the aftermarket scene, as they were made during the golden era of Japanese sports cars.

With that being said, the late Paul Walker, both in his role as Brian O'Conner and in real life, was an avid car enthusiast and has driven some of the coolest cars we've seen in the Fast and Furious saga.

Brian O'Conner definitely has a great chance of winning races even in real life especially when he has "Godzilla" at his disposal, as the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 is an icon not just because it became famous in the Fast saga, but also because it's a motorsport legend in its own right.

Brian drove a silver R34 with blue graphics in 2 Fast 2 Furious sporting a C-west body kit, which was eventually impounded when he got arrested by the US Customs. But later on as an FBI agent in the fourth Fast and Furious film, he went back to driving an R34, this time painted in blue and sporting a Z-tune hood with 18-inch Volk Racing RE30 wheels.

Brian, together with Dom and the crew, built an orange Toyota Supra for O'Conner to use in Race Wars and make money. Both in the movie and in real life, the car really "decimated all", as the very car was sold at an auction for $550,000.

Underneath the hood sits the legendary 2JZ-GTE, which in the JDM world, is one of the most revered engines due to its impeccable build quality that could handle immense amounts of horsepower, giving it virtually an unlimited tuning potential.

"All motor, no tuning issues" — it's definitely a great explanation from Brian for what the 996 body Porsche 911 GT3 RS is, an essentially track-ready car right out of the showroom that only requires a skilled driver behind the wheel to truly shine. Road and Track even calls the car "one of the all-time great Porsche 911s".

Papa Smurf had nothing to do with the Baby Blue paint the car had in Fast Five, as the movie car was really only a 996 Carrera 2 that had GT3 RS kit and decals. Only 140 examples of the true GT3 RS were made, and were painted in white with either light blue or red decals.

7 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX

The Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX was the very first car that Brian drove in the first film, which eventually earned him the respect of Dominic Toretto. Of course, it came at the cost of the car bursting into flames when it got shot by the antagonist Johnny Tran and his crew.

In real life, the Eclipse GSX isn't a bad car, either. Essentially, it's a two-door, front-wheel-drive Lancer Evolution coupe, as it shares the same 4G63 engine with the iconic rally-bred sedan.

Speaking of rally heroes, the Ford Escort RS1600 used by Brian O'Conner in Fast 6 was the Blue Oval's main rally weapon back in the 70s. Beneath its rather tame-looking exterior lies serious racing mechanicals, as underneath the bonnet lies a sweet-sounding 2.0-liter Cosworth BDA engine that pushes out 240 naturally aspirated horses, all driven through the rear wheels.

It can do more than just push a destroyed Mustang over a bridge, as it is hailed as one of the most successful rally cars of all time, with its most notable triumph coming in the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally, where rally legend Hannu Mikkola took the RS1600 to victory.

The Nissan Skyline GT-R Hakosuka only played a minor role in Fast Five as Brian and Mia's car in Brazil in the early parts of the movie. However, in real life, the Hakosuka is a JDM legend.

This was basically the car to beat in the 70s era Japanese touring car racing, as it won 50 races from 1968 to 1972, and had 49 straight victories during that time. Examples like these are hard to come by in the States, as the Hakosuka was only originally intended for sale in Japan.

4 Ford SVT Lightning

The Ford SVT Lightning was one of the first high-performance pickup trucks that came out in the 1990s. In fact, if Brian used this for the first race, he wouldn't have done bad against Toretto either, as it was powered by a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine with 360 hp.

The truck eventually played a minor role as Brian's daily driver in his undercover duties and carried "overnight parts from Japan" when Brian and Dom's team were building the orange Toyota Supra.

3 Dodge Charger

Dominic Toretto might be the notable character who used the Dodge Charger in the Fast saga, but what people don't know is Brian also got behind the wheel of the classic muscle car. At the start of the Fast Five movie, where they hijacked the bus transporting Dom into the correctional facility, Brian was behind the wheel of the Charger.

Brian drove the Charger in front of the prison bus and slams the brakes to initiate a crash to free Dom, where they eventually head for Brazil. In real life, the car has a 528 Hemi V8 fitted with a BDS supercharger, and rolls on 18-inch wheels.

2 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII

via Motor Authority

The 2 Fast 2 Furious movie was released in 2003, a time where Lancer Evolutions weren't imported yet in America. But thanks to Mitsubishi's help, the candy lime Evo VII eventually made it to American shores, and was used as Brian's car provided by US Customs in the movie.

Mitsubishi Motors did not intend to sell the Evo VII to America, so the car was made to look like the upcoming Evo VIII. And as a result, aftermarket manufacturer Genera TYC had to make bespoke taillights that resembled that of the Evo VIII, and fitted them to the movie car.

1 Yenko Super Camaro

Brian O'Conner switched from Japanese import to American muscle, as he and Roman switched cars towards the end of the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie to evade the Miami cops and the US Customs, who were tracking them. The did some Dukes of Hazzard stuff and launched the car, only for it to land on Carter Verone's yacht.

via fastandfurious.wikia.com

The Yenko Super Camaro was one of the high-performance versions of the first-generation Chevrolet Camaro made as a special order back in the 70s by dealer Don Yenko, and featured the 427 big-block V8 that had 450 hp.
