Dubai is a place renowned for all things luxurious: whether its shopping places, restaurants, nightlife, or police cars... Yes, police cars. The Dubai Police Force boasts a wide range of some of the most amazing cars in the world.

We've seen some high-octane chase scenes in movies, but if you're a criminal in Dubai, you don't want to be up against a cop chasing you in a stunning Bugatti Veyron — adjudged as the world's fastest police car in 2017 — that can clock up to 253 km/h. We, at HotCars, are incredibly passionate about cars and while we couldn't stop admiring the stunning range of Dubai police cars, we were curious to figure out why the Dubai Police Force has opted for these supercars instead of standard cars.

Why are Dubai Police Cars so expensive? And which one of these luxury Police Cars stand out? Let's find out.

It's All About The Tourists

The world knows that Dubai’s entire economy thrives on petrol and tourism. With the petrol economy stable, their focus has unsurprisingly been on fortification of their tourism industry. Dubai has been using their super expensive police cars as a masterful marketing strategy for a while now and it’s no shock that every once a while there’s a new bullet in the barrel of their gun. April 2013 saw the Dubai Police Force unveiling the crowd-awing Lamborghini Aventador. The move triggered more than a few eyeballs and the next thing we knew was a ravishing Ferrari FF sported the blue and red police lights.

The Dubai Police Force recruited other monsters such as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the Bentley Continental GT. However, these recruits needed a lieutenant to command them. What followed was the order of several Aston Martin One-77 units. This proved to be a master-stroke as several other exotic supercars followed suit and joined the Dubai Police Car Collection, further influencing the already booming tourism industry.

Dubai authorities confirmed that these exotic cars were not to be used for hot pursuits, but only for patrolling the tourist areas. A brilliant PR strategy where you can beautify a revered police force, and attract tourists, by gifting yourself the best cars in the world.

While the Dubai Police Force boasts a plethora of supercars, some of these beasts stand out when compared to the others. First up is the Aston Martin One-77: a hard-bodied, 2-door coupe.

The One-77 was officially revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009. The hyper-car boasts an incredible 760 Horsepower capacity and is powered by an exquisite 7.3-liter V12 engine, which was widely regarded as the most powerful naturally aspirated production engine in the world at the time of its launch. The chassis is fully built using carbon-fiber monocoque and the bodywork of the car is made of handcrafted aluminum. The One-77 sports the very popular swan doors and offers a 6-speed automated-manual transmission. This Aston Martin model can easily clock over 350 km/h and is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 3.5 seconds.

Popular videogames such as Need for Speed, Test Drive Unlimited-2, and Hot Pursuit have featured this monster acing the streets and cutting away from police chases with relative ease. We fancy if that’s how the Dubai Police got the idea of recruiting this bad boy.

Another beast in the Dubai police force that vows to woo the tourists is the Audi R8. Introduced by the German Car manufacturer, Audi AG in 2006, this mid-engine supercar comes equipped with Audi’s trademark all-wheel-drive system. 14 years down, the R8 has seen two generations of its models trot the globe. The first-gen R8 was the Type 42 which had a couple of variants and was made using either a V8 engine or a V10 engine. The most popular first-gen R8 was the infamous Spyder-convertible model launched in 2008. The second-gen models of the R8 are known as the Type 4S, which were flagged off at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Initially, the models included the all-electric E-Tron, and the V-10 Plus engines, which were constantly subject to improvements.

The 2020 models, however, are the best-ever models of the R8 with a power boost to the base model, which stands at 562 Horsepower whereas the performance model remains at a magnificent 602 Horsepower. The latest models of the Audi R8 can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds and boast a top speed of 320 km/h.

Lykan Hypersport

Next up is the Lykan Hypersport. This beast is what you may call an in-house car for the Dubai police. The Lykan Hypersport is a Lebanese, limited production supercar, assembled in Dubai and owned by W-Motors (a UAE based company). Weighing in at about 1380 kg, the Lykan HS was unveiled to the public at the Qatar Motor Show in 2013.

The supercar boasts a 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged "flat-six engine" and two transmission variants — a 6-speed sequential manual-clutch and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Lakan Hypersport was limited to 7 models and was the third most expensive production car at $3.4 million. It has the distinguished accord of being the first car to have jewels embedded in its headlights. That’s right, the headlights contain LED blades with 440 embedded diamonds. The buyers had the choice of selecting rubies, yellow diamonds, and sapphires to integrate into the headlights. Blown away already? There’s more. The supercar boasted gold stitching on the seats and its center console uses a holographic display system with interactive motion features!

When the UAE makes a supercar, they make other supercars look like ordinary cars, and then, of course, they use it for police patrolling. There's a distinct appeal about the Lakan HyperSport that differentiates it from the rest of the supercars. And we're big fans, of course.
