Electric cars are not just becoming the future, thanks to companies like Electric Classic Cars, they're becoming the past as well, and they've teamed up with Land Rover specialists ECD Automotive Design to put Tesla running gear in classic Land Rovers. These vehicles are considerably more than just a Land Rover shell on a Tesla as the partnership is meant to retain the best of both worlds in one package. This adds to a growing list of companies electrifying classic Land Rovers.

E.C.D. Automotive Design

E.C.D. Automotive Design has some pretty humble beginnings as founder Tom Humble moved to the United States from the U.K. and started importing England's premiere off-roader for family members. Tom's brother Elliot soon joined him and they started restoring Defenders for local customers until a fabled meeting at a WaWa with an investor set the company up doing top line Land Rover customizations.

Electric Classic Cars

Electric Classic Cars has a similar trajectory of a founder taking their passion and finding themselves becoming a market leader. This time it was a racer and custom builder whose day job was to increase the energy and environmental efficiency of his clients. ECC offers electric conversions for classic cars ranging from VWs to old muscle cars.

Two Great Tastes

The companies hope their partnership brings out the best in both to create a new one that equals more than the sum of its parts. Options include a 450hp package that will send the boxy off-roader to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, beating a time of 'never' for some of the donor Land Rovers. For those who want more, a 600 hp version will do the 0-60 deed in 3.5 seconds. The 100kwh battery pack is good for 125 to 250 miles depending on behavior and base model. The cars are 50 state compliant and conversions are good for both Defender and Series Land Rovers.
