The automotive industry is going strong with innovations. As the entire world is looking for ways to reduce emissions for the planet's sake, car manufacturers are coming up with new ideas to help the cause.

If someone told the early automotive pioneers and initial carriage builders that electric vehicles would become a thing at some point, they probably wouldn't believe it. What then to say about hydrogen-powered cars?

This alternative-fuel option is quite new on the market. Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) convert the chemical energy of hydrogen to mechanical energy, which means there are no emissions. They prove to be even more sustainable than EVs.

Currently, there are only two models of hydrogen cars publicly available — the grand Matador MH2 still hasn't reached production, and the Honda Clarity was rolled out in 2021. The first one is the Toyota Mirai, and the second one is Hyundai Nexo.

As we've written a lot about the Toyota Mirai so far, the time has come to take a closer look at the 2022 Hyundai Nexo. In this article, we'll list the main reasons why we love this innovative FCEV.

To be completely honest, the 2022 Hyundai Nexo is not ideal nor extremely powerful. Nevertheless, other qualities make it an excellent choice for those who want a greener driving solution.

The 2022 Hyundai Nexo packs a 95-kW fuel-cell stack and 40-kWh battery. These power up an electric motor that outputs 161 horsepower with 291 lb-ft of torque. Surely, this is not super impressive, but hear us out.

Firstly, the 2022 Hyundai Nexo has zero emissions, which is even less than EVs can offer you. Secondly, it takes five minutes to refill the tank, yet you get a driving range of 354 or 380 miles (depending on the trim).

We love these ratings because a completely green vehicle can take you places without wasting your time to recharge. You won't be slowed down or stopped in the middle of your journey, nor you need to stack up electric chargers at your home. But again, it's a matter of preference and convenience for every individual.

We also like that the 2022 Hyundai Nexo is as modern as it gets. This sleek-looking SUV offers smooth lines and a powerful stance without being too punchy. Every detail on the exterior is refined and handsome, which also helps lower the drag coefficient and increase the driving range. So, the 2022 Hyundai Nexo is not only attractive, but aerodynamic.

Now, the 2022 Hyundai Nexo comes in two trims that are not that different in the end. The Blue is like a standard version. It comes with a 380-mile driving range, a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, and other standard features. This trim is less expensive, but its less heavy design provides a better driving range than the Limited.

On the other hand, the Limited is more premium-like and pricier. It's different from its sibling mostly in luxuries such as a hands-free power lift gate, a large sunroof, ventilated seats, a heating steering wheel, and other high-end tech features.

In conclusion, both trims are attractive and convenient, and we love them equally. Their differences only revolve around the driving range and tech features.

Innovation And Intelligent Features Are At The Core Of The 2022 Hyundai Nexo

Now, we probably love the 2022 Hyundai Nexo the most for its innovative features. When you take a look at the Nexo's cabin, nothing particularly stands out. The SUV is pretty much similar to other vehicles of its class. It's sleek and neat, but not super luxurious.

However, we are thrilled that the 2022 Hyundai Nexo is all about innovation. With a push of the Smart Key button, this vehicle will autonomously park in a parallel or perpendicular space. You don't even need to be in a driver's seat!

What's more, the Hyundai SmartSense system is packed full of safety features, starting with the lane following assist, forward collision avoidance assist, driver attention warning, and more. Drivers are fully backed during every ride and can feel safe on the road. This is not us just talking — the IIHS gave the 2022 Hyundai Nexo the title of the top safety pick for 2022.

In terms of other convenient features, we already mentioned a 12.3-inch touchscreen display. There's also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration available, as well as the Hyundai Blue Link app. This app is quite practical because it offers remote engine starting and a hydrogen-fuel station locator.

Lastly, the 2022 Hyundai Nexo is a small but comfortable SUV with plenty of passenger and cargo room. You can pack all your belongings and feel comfy during both long and short rides. If the combination of all the listed features is not a good enough reason to love this hydrogen-powered SUV, we don't know what is!
