Over the last four decades, Mercedes-Benz has developed the G-Class with different variants, cosmetic updates, and powertrains. First introduced in the late 70s, the Geländewagen has been the most reliable luxury off-roader SUV in the market. Since it was first unveiled, the G-Class wagon has made several changes to the design, losing its original touch. At the 2021 German Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced the G-Class Professional Line that has returned with the same robust and sturdy exterior as the original iteration. The Professional Line features some parts from the recent updates with a combination of the vintage exterior. The Mercedes Manufaktur Customization Program offers complete customization of the SUV that suits the driver’s needs.

A beautifully rugged off-road machine, Mercedes-Benz offers new and exciting updates for the people who want to buy the combustion-powered G-Class. Ready for an exclusive launch, here’s a look at the 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Professional Line.

A Striking Off-Road Identity

While keeping some of the features of the previous G-Class models, the Professional Line has shredded some other features such as chrome accents and side exhausts. The 22-inch alloy wheels are replaced by beefy 18-inch 5-spoke wheels with the addition of mud flaps and stone guarded grilles to protect the round headlamps. The tires are made by the Japanese brand Falken in the Wildpeak AT3W variant, specifically engineered for an adventurous off-road experience.

The vehicle's look is enhanced through the in-house Manufaktur Customization Program that offers several additional features for the Professional Line. The rugged roof rack can be used to hold multiple accessories, including tents and bicycles. Using a tent, the program allows the G-Class to transform into a camper van. Some of the other notable features include a spare wheel holder and a towing hitch.

The customization program is also responsible for the Magno paintwork, Magno black bumpers, a contrasting roof, and wheel arches. The stylish appearance adds more class to the G-Class DNA with its well-built design.

The 2022 G-Class specifically focuses on the Professional Line Exterior, so Mercedes-Benz retained several interior programs. The five-seater G-Wagon comes with a spacious cockpit, customized infotainment system, heat-resistant sunroof, and leather upholstery. Additionally, the 2022 Mercedes Benz G-Class also features a rear-seat entertainment system for the passengers’ better convenience and added luxury.

The opulent aesthetics of the G-Class ensure there is no headroom shortage and provide ample cargo space. Mercedes-Benz provides a similar warranty and maintenance package to its customers like its competitors with limited and powertrain coverage that covers four years or 50,000 miles.

The 2022 Professional Line iteration is equipped with a straight-six diesel engine with an area of 178.5 cu in. The 2022 G-Class is expected to provide an output of 325 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque, compared to the standard 281 HP and 442 lb-ft of torque. The Professional Line is developed specifically for adventures and ensures a safe ride for the driver and passengers.

Along with the exceptional changes to the wheels, the G-Class now includes an optional Night Package. The package ensures the number plate, mirror housings, and three-pointed star are colored in a sleek black shade. The interior also sees a few changes, such as the leather upholstery is in the shade of black, and the ash veneer furniture is darkened with black tints added to enhance the dramatic look.

The extended options for the 2022 G-Class Professional Line include ten new color palettes, including the shade of Copper Orange Magno displayed at the Auto Show. The interior features 64-color lighting compared to the eight shades offered in the previous standard models.

Offering A Choice For Everything

The best element of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz Class Professional Line is that it lets customers opt for customizations in almost every aspect of the car. The interior will be offered in three options for the Professional Line: Standard, Exclusive, and Superior. For the exterior, the 2022 model will be available in not only Professional Line but also in Exclusive and AMG Packages.

The Professional Line gives a glimpse into the changes that come forth for the G-Class and affect the future design and features of the SUV. The revised equipment range and design elements make the Standard Line stand out from its predecessors regarding its off-ruggedness. While the Professional Line only offers diesel-engine, there is a possibility of an electric version in the future.

The 2021 IAA Mobility showcased the car in all its glory, and only two images were released for the public. With availability in Europe, Mercedes-Benz has discontinued the G-Class model for the United States for 2022. The price of the Professional Line remains undisclosed. However, with the customizations, the price is likely to remain upwards of $150,000. The 2022 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Professional Line is a culmination of comfort and adventure, making it an all-terrain icon. The Professional Line iteration shall be featured at the IAA Mobility until September 12, 2021.
