Over the years, Porsche has proven to be a competent manufacturer of high-performance sports cars, sedans, and lately, SUVs. Since the market launch of the Porsche Macan in 2014, the Macan SUV breed has been a mainstay on the SUV market, with very few competitors able to match it in both performance and features alike. In the US alone, 140,000 units of the Macan have been sold since it launched.
For 2022, Porsche has revealed a brand-new iteration of the Macan, which features significant improvements over the previous models. This new Porsche breed comes in three trims, with each trim level possessing more robust capabilities than the 2014 model. Although the Turbo trim has been excluded from the Macan breed for 2022, the Base, S, and GTS trims fill in perfectly to give the most adventurous fulfillment one would ask for. Here’s a list of the most remarkable features in the latest Macan.
10 New Head And Tail Lights
Previous Porsche models came with the conventional Halogen or Xenon exterior light designs. However, for the 2022 Macan, the German automobile company used LED exterior lighting for both the headlights and taillights.
With the Porsche logo centrally positioned on the 3-dimensional light panel, which joins the two taillight clusters, the 2022 Macan model has an entirely different outlook from its predecessor. Redesigned automatic fascia LED lights close to the front bumper give off a classic feel while driving in the daytime.
9 Dashboard Design
Known for their attention to detail, Porsche didn't cheap out on the 2022 Macan. One noticeable feature of the dashboard design is the efficient use of space and arrangement of buttons and controls on the vehicle. Aside from the use of soft padded leather-faux and suede covering, the newborn Porsche SUV presents a touch of elegance reflected in the arrangement and style of its dashboard components.
Also, it comes with an analog clock placed directly above the PCM infotainment touchscreen as a new standard for the Macan breed. The 2022 Macan dashboard spells out simplicity and convenience.
8 PCM Infotainment system
Buttons have become obsolete since the beginning of the touchscreen era. Porsche joins the trend by eliminating some buttons on the center console and replacing them with haptic buttons. The 2022 Porsche Macan has an updated version of the PCM infotainment system equipped with a 10.9-inch touchscreen featuring voice control.
Additionally, a navigation system with an off-road precision app for guiding and recording off-road trips, and a premium audio system consisting of 10 speakers beef up the infotainment system. The vehicle is also compatible with Apple CarPlay, but sadly, there’s no Android Auto compatibility.
7 Tri-Zone Climate Control System
The 2022 Porsche Macan comes with an automatic Tri-zone climate control system that helps regulate the internal temperature at separate regions of the vehicle independently.
This system has separate controls for the driver and the passengers at the front and rear seats. With this feature, the comfort of one passenger doesn’t stand as an impediment to the convenience of another in the car.
6 Revamped Center Console
From classic buttons to modern haptic controls, Porsche has re-imagined the feel of the 2022 Macan. The entirely sophisticated yet simple and clean look of the refurbished 2022 Macan center console has a handful of practical features that would impress vehicle owners.
Features like the haptic touch PCM infotainment screen, more spacious storage and the shorter and fancier gear lever mean the 2022 Macan’s center console is less cluttered and more practical than previous models.
5 Rugged Engine Power
The 2022 Macan offers exceptional engine properties for the three available trims. The base trim has a 261-hp turbocharged four-cylinder engine which generates a torque of about 295 lb-ft. The Macan S trim comes with the 375-hp V6 engine, formerly used in the GTS trim of its 2014 predecessor.
Switching places with the dropped Turbo Trim, the GTS trim of this 2022 model adopts the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which was used in the Turbo trim of the 2014 model, and generates 434 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque.
4 Better Fuel Economy
Porshe models are not particularly known to be fuel-efficient vehicles. However, this Macan breed is expected to be more fuel-efficient than its predecessor. The three trims of the 2022 Porsche Macan come with the same 75-liter fuel tank.
Considering the performance of the engines from the base to the top trim, a mileage of 22-25 mpg and 27-29 mpg is expected in the city drive and highway cruise, respectively. Although the GTS trim is performance-based and will gulp tons of fuel, the base model is expected to be more fuel-efficient than most vehicles in its range.
3 Handling/Speed
The 2022 Macan proves to be a multipurpose vehicle, as it can serve as an SUV and also perform admirably well on the racetrack. With the engine power of this new model, the Macan S trim can jump from rest to 60mph in 5.8 seconds, with a maximum speed of 144 mph.
The Macan GTS’s 434-hp twin-turbo V6 engine gives it a 3.5 second jump time from 0 to 60 mph with a top speed of 160 mph.
2 Safety/Driver Assistance
The Porsche Macan has no ratings from the two most prominent safety bodies due to its expensive price tag. Many have even questioned the Macan's standing as a reliable luxury SUV. Notwithstanding, the 2022 Macan comes with top-range safety and driver assistance features. Some unique features include the Porsche Hill Control, Roll-over detection sensors, and Engine Drag Torque Control.
Other safety features include Seat belt pretensioners, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, ParkAssist with reversing camera, and Porsche Traction Management. The Real-Time Traffic Display also aids drivers in navigating busy areas.
1 Improved Chassis
The Porsche Macan is the closest you’ll get to a sports car in the SUV segment. Although the company remains a bit reserved about the technical developments that will be made on the chassis of the 2022 Porsche Macan, we know for sure that the new nose and tail tweaks will give the SUV a broader and fresher outlook.
Also, the GTS trim will have a 10mm body drop with increased rigidity at the front and rear to facilitate its new weight carriage expectancy.
