For several decades, Jeep has been an automaker synonymous with American pride. The brand was developed in 1940, around the time that the U.S. and its allies were preparing for World War II. The U.S. Army was seeking light reconnaissance vehicles and in response, Ford, Willys, and Bantam collectively developed what would be known as the Jeep.

Since then, Jeep has evolved to produce several popular models, including the Wrangler, Cherokee, and the Gladiator. These cars may have developed quite a following. Nonetheless, they are not without problems. Just check out all these glaring issues that we’ve found so far:

According to the defect notice, there is a possibility that the vehicle’s wiring may short circuit while the affected car’s cruise control is engaged. If this happens, the driver would not be able to disengage cruise control by manually turning off this featured or depressing the car’s brake’s pedal.

Because the cruise control cannot be turned off, the car would maintain its current speed or worse, accelerate without warning. The affected Jeep models include 2014 to 2018 year models of the Grand Cherokee and Cherokee, as well as the 2018 Wrangler.

In the affected vehicles, it is believed that the plastic blades of the cooling fan that’s driven by the car’s electric motor may separate and even penetrate the shroud. Should this occur, a person within the vicinity of the engine may be struck and injured by the blade when the hood is open.

An investigation into this matter was launched on July 19, 2005 after receiving reports of alleged blade separation in the 2002 Grand Cherokee. Meanwhile, the DaimlerChrysler Corporation immediately noted 117 complaints related to this issue. It was also found that the 2000 Grand Cherokee units are affected.

Back in 2014, Chrysler decided to open an investigation into the possibility of an engine stall that is linked to the car’s alternator. As a result, the company investigated the alternators of cars that exhibit this condition and found thermal fatigue indications in the silicone diodes of the affected alternators.

In the case of thermal fatigue failure, an engine stall may occur. Even worse, the driver would not receive an advanced warning by way of the “Charging System Indication Lamp.” This increases the likelihood of a crash while the car is being driven. The affected model is the 2014 Grand Cherokee.

In this case, the problem is said to originate from a master cylinder to the hydraulic control unit brake tube assembly end flare that was improperly formed during manufacturing. Because of this, the affected car can suffer from a sudden loss in brake fluid and crash.

The issue was detected after the Warren Truck Assembly Plant started detecting lower first-time capability among the Ram 1500 trucks during the plant’s brake pedal push test. Aside from the Ram 1500, it was also found that several units of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler and Liberty were affected.

The issue was detected while Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US was conducting a Buzz Squeak Rattle evaluation at its assembly plant in Toledo North. According to a copy of the manufacturer notice to dealers, the company found that a seat fastener in the affected cars was not tightened according to the correct torque specification.

Hence, in the event of a road accident, the seat occupant might suffer serious injuries. The said issue affects the 2014 to 2016 models of the Cherokee. That amounts to over 1,800 vehicles.

According to a copy of the defect notice, it is possible for the seat heater to overheat and possibly cause a fire. Even worse, it can also injure the vehicle occupant.

The issue was discovered after several incidents of fire occurred as a result of the front seat heater overheating. Burn marks on the seat back and seat cushion were also found. The affected models include the 2001 to 2004 Grand Cherokee.

According to a copy of the owner notification letter, the halfshafts on the affected vehicles may not have received proper heat treatment during their manufacturing process. Because of this, it is possible for these halfshafts to suffer a fracture without warning. When this happens, it could readily damage the car’s underbody components.

Even worse, it can also disconnect from the drive axle and increase the risk of a crash. A recall was issued concerning both left and right halfshafts of the 2016 Cherokee. More than 1,000 units are said to be affected by the issue.
