The Street Glide serves as an example of a bike that although looks perfect, it came with many problems. It's truly a Harley legend, there's no denying that. But the 2017 models had a failing clutch problem, among many others.

Many consumers reported a bunch of problems with this bike, including brake and oil pump issues. It's sad, really. But that's the truth with some of the modern cruisers. Their value goes down as soon as you ride out of the dealership, and so does the quality.

9 Twin Problems

V-Twin engines are inherently Harley engines. In fact, it's impossible to detach the experience of driving a Harley without mentioning the famous V-Twin. After all, it's that thumping sound that gives every Harley motorcycle character. But things weren't looking that good in 2004.

As an example, we have the Dyna Superglide motorcycle, which was truly a disappointment for the bike community. The engine broke down many times, or it simply didn't start. Truly disastrous.

8 Design Deficiencies

Cruiser bikes aren't meant to be practical, after all, it's not preferred for long distances. Which explains why designers in some cases don't care about how the form functions, but rather how it looks. The Harley-Davidson Road Glide Ultra is one of them.

The front has been laughed and ridiculed over the past years. The Road Glide Ultra, unfortunately, alienated many people, not only with how it looks but how uncomfortable it is. Some even complained about the cheap finishes and build quality.

7 Electric Errors

No matter how expensive your cruiser bike is going to be, or what kind of brand it is, always do your research and read as many reviews as you can. Or else, you'll end up like the enthusiasts who bought the Electra Glide as soon as it came out.

This bike serves as an example how sometimes even the greatest manufacturers fail to resolve the electrical problems. Ironically enough, the Electra Glide had many electrical problems that no one expected. After all, the name came-back from the '60s was enough to make many gearheads go crazy. Just another downhill bike for Harley.

6 Faulty Clutches

A dragging clutch may be very risky, and at the same time annoying. It makes it difficult to change gears, and at the same time it can make the bike creep forward. This drag problem usually happens when there's a lot of free play in the clutch release mechanism.

Unfortunately, this problem is quite spread in cruisers. For example, the CVO Roadking had faulty and dragging clutches, and instead of being a legacy model for Harley, it ended up being a bad memory that no one wants to be associated with.

5 Not So Badass

When we say not so badass, we don't mean in terms of looks.  For example, the Ultra Classic in this picture certainly looks like one of the wildest bikes out there. However, the truth is completely different. Although the seats are a bit of a problem for us, the Ultra Classic still gives this scary vibe around.

If only it worked and performed as good as it looks. The bike is not only underpowered, but it was discovered to have a bunch of issues that needed a lot of repairs. A poorly built engine, and a lot of other mechanical problems. You know what's real badass? A bike that is powerful, and looks and rides the same even after 20 years. The Ultra Classic and many other cruisers, unfortunately, aren't so.

4 Underpowered/ Slow

There's a lot to love in a cruiser bike, especially if you're a beginner. But if you're a true motorcycle fan, who loves speed, we have bad news for you. Most cruiser bikes have only one speed, and although they are simple to drive, at the same time they are extremely slow.

So if you're in a hurry, please forget using your cruiser. Or if you have to pass long distances, through hilly areas, you better take a cab. These bikes serve a purpose, and power, unfortunately, isn't one of them.

3 Too Heavy

The main reason cruiser bikes are underpowered is their weight. They are extremely heavy bikes, which makes them harder to ride, especially on hills, and also barely possible to transport. The best example of heavy cruisers is the Victory Vision.

Although the Victory Vision has been described as cutting edge, or avant-garde by its designers, the popular opinion thinks this bike is ugly. If only looks were its only problems. The Victory Vision is way too heavy, and long. Yes, you heard us right, its overall length is 106.4 inches.

2 Outdated Concept

A lot of people think cruisers are an outdated concept, although not that old. That sentence alone tells you a lot about the character of the bike. They might be great to look at, and comfortable at low speeds and short rides, but otherwise, they don't provide many thrills.

And in this day and age, what most people look for is the thrill, or the speed. Which in this case, cruisers seem to miss. Overall, cruisers are fun bikes only if you ride them once in a while. Do it too frequently, and you'll start hating yourself.

1 No Comfort

Cruiser bikes are very comfortable for short rides, as we've mentioned before. The big cushy seat and high handlebars, allow you to sit up tight and enjoy the views you're about to see. Sometimes they even have fenders, which help during a rainstorm or even just a fine ride.

All in all, there's a lot to love about cruisers. However, that wide cushy seat that you love so much gets very uncomfortable during long rides. The riding position on a cruiser is also not healthy and way less aerodynamic. So if you've been wanting a cruiser bike for a long time, you better think about it.
