Whether it's exotics, American muscle, or even high-performance trucks, the YouTube channel Street Speed 717 has done it all. The popular content creator has had pretty amazing races on the channel as well. His C7 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 put a Tesla Model S Plaid in its place, so Mike (Street Speed 717) is no stranger to another fast car wanting to put him to the test.

Recently, he picked up a beautiful orange 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that even rivals his Corvette ZR1. In his latest episode, a new competitor wants to challenge the Shelby in the form of a McLaren 720S supercar.

Updates On The Shelby GT500

Mike starts off the episode by discussing the condition of his Alcantara steering wheel in the GT500. Because of the suede material, the natural oils and dirt from your hands wear out the material faster than leather.

Mike purchases a new carbon fiber steering wheel from a company called Carbon Steer to match the other carbon fiber trim in the Shelby.

On the way to the dealership to get some new tires and install the new steering wheel, he does a few pulls on the highway. If you ever wondered if the Shelby GT500 is fuel efficient, it's not. With half a tank of fuel left, the low fuel light comes on at 50 miles left. That means that a full tank of gas will only yield 100 or so miles.

During the previous race against the Corvette, the GT500 struggled with traction issues due to bald tires. New tires should help remedy the issue.

Moving on to the race, the McLaren 720S and Mike's Shelby meet up for a few high-speed pulls. The first race starts with the 720S pulling ahead slightly, but then the GT500 comes back strong. Both cars pretty much stay neck and neck with no true indicator of the winner.

During the second race, the Shelby gets the clear victory with the car pulling a few car lengths ahead of the McLaren. The third race fares better for the McLaren, but the Shelby starts to gain before they both slow down.

The fourth race is similar to the first race where both cars were staying pretty close to each other before slowing down. The fifth and final race gives the clear victory to the Shelby as Mike once again put a few car lengths in front of the McLaren.

The races prove that it's all about driver reaction time and if you have enough traction to put so much power to the ground.
