Karma Automotive, formed out of the ashes of bankrupt Fisker Automotive in 2015 by the Wanxiang Group, launched the SC2 electric concept car at AutoMobility LA and the 2019 LA Auto Show. Karma bills the car as a high-technology mobility incubator showcasing Karma IP and cutting-edge luxury design cues to be used in future offerings. And she looks great in Vapor Gray!

The SC2 BEV concept has front and rear twin electric motors delivering 1,100 hp and 10,500 lb.-ft. of torque. Yes, that figure is correct! Ten-Thousand-Five-Hundred-Pound-Feet-Of-Torque! That's approaching freight train territory! Karma claims the SC2 is good for 350 miles of range and dashes from naught to 60 in under 1.9 seconds. Tesla, eat your heart out!

She's equipped with carbon ceramic brakes, a racing derived pushrod suspension system, and a bespoke torque-vectoring gearbox. The SC2 also benefits from a dynamic ultrasonic regenerative battery pack and exceptional hand braking system. The end result, according to Karma, is a vehicle that is equally at home cruising on the highway delivering optimum efficiency as it is carving up canyons in the California countryside.

Inside, Karma includes Drive and Play technology for gamers and racing enthusiasts alike to review and experience previous drives through an adaptive laser projection system. This is done via triple high definition cameras throughout the car, frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) LIDAR, an interior and underhood sensor suite, and a comprehensive software package. Sounds pretty neat but I hope it's locked down tight if it ever rolls out to the street!

The design language of the SC2 focuses on clean surfaces, a purposeful stance, and the integration of technology and driver into one. The Vapor Gray paint draws inspiration from the brand's focus on future technologies. Likewise, attention to aerodynamics and pleasing shapes are highly functional yet sleek. The articulating hinge doors, giant front windshield, and silhouette are both refined and restrained. The end result is a hypercar concept that is at once a beautiful, smart, and brutal performer.

As a design showcase and technology demonstrator, however, don't expect to see it for sale anytime soon ... if at all. I'd also reserve a bit of caution given the history of Fisker Automotive and its penchant for releasing vaporware without follow through. But with any luck this design and tech exercise might bear fruit down the road. Let's wait and see. Check out the big reveal below and buckle up.
