The cars we drive can often define us. They tell all who are watching what we do and if we’re cheap or not. And, perhaps, no one is scrutinized more than celebrities and high-end athletes. Indeed, these men and women have all eyes on them, so if they go on a run to the corner store, dressed in their pajamas, and decide to take an old car—or rather, a beater—on this errand, then all eyes will bear witness to what they drive, and that's how a reputation is undoubtedly built.

And the reports will begin " …did you see what so and so drives? …can you believe that he drives such a cheap car? ...and with all the money he makes!"

The talk will go on and on, and understandably so. A lot of these athletes make top dollar, and they can definitely afford better cars, if not the very top of the line. Now, we’re not saying these guys and gals need to be driving Bentleys and the like, but please, can’t they drive something a little better than what we've uncovered in our research for this article?

Oh yeah, before I forget, we’ve got a few of the greatest rides ever driven or owned by the stars of Major League Baseball, and believe us, they are great rides. But don’t take our word for it, scroll down and see for yourselves. And for an extra added treat, we’ve got a few cars from other athletes in other sports and you won’t believe what some of them drive.

25 SWEET RIDE: FELIX HERNANDEZ - FERRARI 458

via the news wheel

Felix Hernandez started out in Major League Baseball in 2005. He's had quite the career and has played his entire career thus far with the Seattle Mariners. In 2012, he pitched what has been considered the 23rd perfect game in Major League Baseball history, linking him with some of the world's greatest pitchers. To say that he could afford a sweet ride or two would be an understatement, as with great games played comes a great salary. And as far as sweet rides go, perhaps the Ferrari 458 isn't too shabby a vehicle to own. With a 4.5-liter V8 engine and great style, it's definitely a ride befitting a baseball star.

24 SWEET RIDE: ALFONSO SORIANO- HUMMER H2

VIA clarkemotorsoc.com

Nothing says power like a Hummer! In fact, the very word just screams, "Go big or go home!" This mammoth in the field of vehicular design has been on the market since the nineties. Long story short, the Hummer was unleashed onto society and the world hasn't looked back since, with the company releasing a few models of the great military vehicle. Baseball player Alfonso Soriano enjoys driving his H2 Hummer, and why wouldn't he? He's a now retired second baseman and left fielder who played his baseball with the New York Yankees, among other teams.

23 SWEET RIDE: KEN GRIFFEY JR- PORSCHE CARRERA GT

via motor1

And here is another admirer of the Porsche brand of vehicles, Ken Griffey Jr. Now, he is no stranger to success and he shouldn't be a stranger to any of you, as even non-fans of Major League baseball have certainly heard his name. He is now retired, but in his day, he played some serious Baseball. He is a member of the Hall of Fame and a 13-time all-star, and if all that doesn't convince you of his success, he hit a whopping 630 home runs, which puts him in the 7th position in Major League Baseball history. And what did he do with all the money he garnered for himself? Well, he bought some pretty amazing cars, as you can see here.

22 SWEET RIDE: ROY HALLADAY - 1932 FORD

VIA bringatrailer.com

And not all these stars of Major League Baseball prefer the more luxurious rides, as some of them prefer to drive something a little more historic and, dare I say it, cars with a little more muscle. Case in point, this gentleman here. Roy "Doc" Halladay (the "Doc" nickname is an homage to the famed Wild West persona and character, Doc Holliday) played for the Blue Jays, as well as the Philadelphia Phillies, and had quite the career. He retired in 2013, but not before accumulating some amazing career stats, which included a perfect game in 2010, the 20th in MLB history. He enjoyed driving around in his custom 1932 Ford. Sadly though, he passed in 2017 in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico. His number was retired in 2018, the number 32 for the Toronto Blue Jays.

21 SWEET RIDE: BRYCE HARPER- JAGUAR F-TYPE

via nicole middleton

There was a time when the Jaguar was considered to be your granddaddy's ride. Many of us are very happy that those stereotypical days are, indeed, behind us, as vehicles are definitely things that should be left to personal preference. To each his or her own, as they say. But Jaguar shouldn't be considered to be a company that only designs and fabricates luxury cars for those of a certain demographic. They make extremely powerful cars that can stand up to almost any on the road. Case in point: the F-Type featured here. It also got the attention of MLB free agent Bryce Harper who owns his very own F-Type. Now, can a guy who can spend his money on any car imaginable be wrong in his choice? Think about that one as we move on.

20 SWEET RIDE: DAVID ORTIZ - AUDI R8 SPYDER

via youtube

As we've said, Audi definitely makes some epic rides, and perhaps, the R8 Spyder, pictured here, is one of the greatest cars known to man. Not only is it a great car mechanically speaking, but it also packs quite the punch in terms of design. And all attributes, both beneath the hood and around all the contours of this car, were what called the attention of David Ortiz when it came to deciding what new toy he wanted to spend some of his money on. Ortiz is a retired designated hitter and spent his MLB career mostly playing for the Boston Red Sox, but also did a brief stint with the Minnesota Twins.

19 SWEET RIDE: ROBINSON CANO - PORSCHE PANAMERA

VIA Porsche South Bay

This baseball star's full name is actually Robinson Jose Cano Mercedes, and so one would think that the car we'd feature in this article—linked to him of course—would be none other than a beautiful Mercedes, but no, the man seems to favor a Porsche. But not just any Porsche, in fact, he owns the renowned Panamera,  the Porsche of Porsches, so to speak. The vehicle has a definite name for itself as being one of the most beautiful cars fabricated by the Porsche company, and the accolades are well deserved. And so are the career accolades for this young man, who plays baseball for the New York Mets.

18 SWEET RIDE: FRANCISCO LIRIANO - MASERATI GRAN TURISMO

VIA Maserati

This 35-year-old free agent has played a lot of baseball in his 13 years with Major League Baseball. He's played for the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago White Sox, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the list goes on. He, too, is a pitcher and he has accumulated quite a decent list of accomplishments in the sport, and as we said earlier, accomplishments in any sport also bring certain luxuries and the means to purchase these luxuries. And purchase these luxuries he has, as he is the proud owner of a beautiful Maserati Gran Turismo, one of the most incredible luxury cars in the world. It's been in production since 2007 and is still going strong.

17 SWEET RIDE: TIM LINCECUM - MERCEDES CLS

VIA Motor1.com

And here is yet another Major League Baseball player that is currently a free agent. But that doesn't mean that he hasn't paid his dues on that diamond. He has played for some of the better teams out there and has earned himself a decent name in the sport of baseball. And he is the proud owner of a Mercedes CLS, one of the better Mercedes models out there and, of course, one of the most luxurious. Is it any wonder that some of these stars can afford some of the greatest cars or vehicles on the market? After all, their salaries make regular salaries look like the contents of a 9-year-old kid's piggy bank!

16 SWEET RIDE: MAT LATOS- AUDI S5

VIA QuattroDaily

The Audi S5 has been in production since 2007 and is still being produced, as demand is quite substantial for this model that is the higher performing version of the A5, which also did quite well on the road, as well as on the market. Audi is, indeed, a trusted manufacturer and a sought-after car for many enthusiasts, as they do produce a sweet ride. And, of course, all of this didn't go unnoticed by MLB star Mat Latos, who has been playing baseball since 2009. He, too, is a pitcher and is currently a free agent. He played some serious baseball for some great teams, including the Marlins, the Dodgers, and even the famed Los Angeles Angels, among others.

15 SWEET RIDE: ALBERT PUJOLS - FORD F-150

VIA TRUCKMAX

It must also be said that luxurious sports cars aren't for everyone, as we saw with the late, great Doc Halladay. He preferred hot rods, and the same can't exactly be said for this young man, but they do share a similarity in their preferred make of vehicle. Indeed, Ford wins out here, as Albert is a definite fan of the F-Series of Ford trucks, and the F-150 being his most favorite of the bunch. And really, what's not to love? The F-Series of truck s that the company produces are some of the best in the business. They're reliable, durable, and the best part is, they look the part as well. The F-Series and the Mustang are definitely Ford's top models in modern history, and there's very good reason for that. We're sure that Pujols agrees.

14 SWEET RIDE: VICTOR MARTINEZ - CHEVY CAMARO

VIA Rick Hendrick Chevrolet

Probably one of the longest reigns in automotive history belongs to the Chevy Camaro. And what we mean by reign is a significant time at the top of the greatest muscle cars lists over quite a few decades. Model after model, the Camaro has gone toe to toe with some of the heavy hitters in muscle car fabrication and design, but it probably has nestled itself in as one of the top few muscle cars on the market and will probably enjoy that position for many years to come. Its company at the top of that list are probably the Charger from Dodge, the Ford Mustang, and probably the Firebird, but that list is definitely arguable and probably quite longer than just five or ten, but we won't get into that here. Regardless, MLB superstar Victor Martinez, who played his baseball with the Indians and the Red Sox (now retired), agrees (with the Camaro at least) and owns one of his own.

13 SWEET RIDE: RYAN HOWARD - CADILLAC ESCALADE

VIA carhd2019.club

The Cadillac Escalade is probably one of the most luxurious SUVs on the market. In fact, it was the symbol of luxury and is featured in many rap videos. In fact, throughout history, the Cadillac name has been represented as such, as many have stated that the first thing they'd do with their newfound fame and fortune would be purchasing a Cadillac. That probably comes in just under going to Disneyland, of course. But it was the perfect vehicle for former Philadelphia Phillies MLB star, Ryan Howard, nicknamed "The Big Piece." At 6 foot 4, he definitely was a big beast, and the Escalade was the perfect car for him when it came to fitting his big frame and his big head into that driver's seat.

12 SWEET RIDE: EDWIN JACKSON- ASTON MARTIN RAPIDE

VIA Stratstone

Edwin Jackson—who is also a free agent, incidentally—owns the beauty pictured here, an Aston Martin Rapide, which is probably one of the more expensive Aston Martins you could possibly get. And what more, it's an exceptional ride and well worth the price tag. It's been in production since 2010 and has a definitive style to its front end that makes it stand visibly apart from other models under the Aston Martin name. Jackson is probably at the tail end of a very lucrative baseball career, but when he does retire, at least he'll have something to do when he hangs up those cleats and that mitt.

11 SWEET RIDE: MARIANO RIVERA- CORVETTE STINGRAY

VIA WeBe Autos

And what would a list of great rides be without the inclusion of, probably, one of the greatest Corvettes in history? The Corvette, in and of itself, is a respected vehicle, considered luxurious, muscular, and yes, even a sports car. Many have Corvettes in their personal collections, but not all have one of the better models, the Stingray, pictured here. This model just screams power and a smooth design. Retired MLB player Mariano Rivera obviously agrees with us, as he's the proud owner of his very own Stingray. Rivera played 19 seasons with the MLB and exclusively wore the colors of the New York Yankees.

10 BEATER: ALFRED MORRIS - 1991 MAZDA 626

via topsimages

And, of course, not everyone likes to spend the money they make on cars. It's true, there are many celebrities and athletes that would rather spend their fortunes on other endeavors, often opting to drive their old, or even cheap, cars that won't take much of their money in terms of price and upkeep. Take San Francisco 49ers running back, Alfred Morris. He still drives his 1991 Mazda 626! Now, that's not a terrible car by any means. In fact, the fact that it's still in decent condition after all these years proves that. But at the same time, it has a lot of people wondering just how much this dude makes. But in truth, he makes a better salary than most, and his vehicular choice comes down to personal preference and a refusal to throw his money away.

9 BEATER: MITCHELL TRUBISKY: TOYOTA CAMRY

via Sports Illustrated

This 24-year-old quarterback, who plays for the Chicago Bears in the NFL, is definitely a big man. At 6 foot 3 and 222 pounds, he definitely plays the part of QB well and does his job well at that. He only started his NFL career in 2017, so we'll have to forgive him his cheap car tastes, as maybe he hasn't reached his financial potential just yet, but give this young star time. His vehicle of choice is a Camry, of all things, and a rather old one, at that. But for now, it does the job. We anxiously await the possibility of him expanding his car collection, though, so fingers crossed. But for now, we wonder how much hazing his teammates put him through at practice. After all, he is a rookie and he drives this car to practice! But not to worry, at 222 pounds, we're sure they don't bug him too much.

8 BEATER: SHINSUKE NAKAMURA - MAZDA 2 SKYACTIVE

VIA mirror.co.uk

When it comes to the world of professional sports, the sport most often forsaken is the sport of professional wrestling. Many have called it Sports Entertainment, and others have called it a soap opera of sorts, but at the end of the day, the physical turmoil these individuals undergo is, bar none, some of the most excruciating in all facets of physical activity. Plain and simple, these men and women are athletes, period. Take this young man here: he has risen high on the ladder in the wrestling industry and puts on a great match, and he surely making decent coin right about now, only his choice in vehicles doesn't really show that.

7 BEATER: JAMES HARRISON - SMART CAR

VIA autoTrader.ca

I don't know about any of you, but the Smart Car doesn't really scream, "Lap of luxury," now does it? It's a quaint car, that's for sure, but people have realized that it really isn't worth as much as it goes for. It's a decent way to get from point A to point B, but other than that, it isn't anything all that special, really. But try to convince NFL star James Harrison of that. He proudly owns one of these and has even shown pictures of him behind the wheel on social media. The funny thing about all this is that the man is huge and muscular and to see him behind that wheel is something worthy of Laurel and Hardy and not the NFL.

6 BEATER: GIOVANI BERNARD: HONDA ODYSSEY

2017 Honda Odyssey
Leith Honda

This running back for the Cincinnati Bengals is very serious about his chosen sport and profession. He practices regularly and keeps in tip-top shape for the game he plays. In truth, the rigorous demands put on football players demand a tight regimen and he abides, day and night. Can you call him boring? Not really, as he's just serious about his game. But where we can criticize him a tad and claim that he is a bit "boring" is in his choice of vehicles. The man drives a Honda minivan, for crying out loud! How more boring can you get? Well, there are many that would argue that his choice in such a vehicle is a tactical one. Some believe that keeping his purchases to a minimum enables him to live a disciplined life in other areas as well.
