For over four decades, the Nissan GT-R was only a Japanese legend. The car was a high-performance, high-tech coupe others could only get a glimpse of in video games. Fitted with all-wheel-drive and all-wheel steering, the Nissan GT-R was a car we were drooled over from afar. And that cool nickname: Godzilla. Unsurprisingly, everyone couldn't wait to see it in real life.

After speculations, including a concept car shown in 2001, the GT-R came to America. These were not outdated models legally converted to American regulations. In 2008, you could go to a Nissan dealer and get a new car, assuming the $70K price tag wasn't an issue. Only 4 people are trusted with the task of building the engine, and they are known as "The Takumi". It means "master craftsman" in English, and this is who they are. Here are 15 sick pics of custom Nissan GT-Rs on Instagram.

13 Carnage Marvel Wrap

This is the Nissan GT-R that's got a sick carnage vinyl wrap. We can see Venom's face and teeth right on top of the hood, the rest just flows throughout the car. This marvelous red wrap looks professional and contemporary, even against a field of newer and fresher designs.

12 Purple Chameleon Nissan GT-R

It's pretty clear that the GT-R doesn't need a bright color to stand out. However, some owners feel the need to dress their GT-Rs in something special. This is what we're looking at right now: a car that comes in a purple chameleon finish. It looks like a respray, even though it's a purple foil.

11 The Flag Wrap

This Nissan GT-R couldn't be more Japanese even if it tried. The lines of the flag are drawn perfectly over the body lines of the car, making for a mad visual effect. Perhaps most notable thing about this wrap is that it doesn't shout its performance. We believe that this design can age well.

10 Kuhl Racing Engraved Nissan GT-R

According to Kuhl Racing, "body panels are replaced with parts of glass, every centimeter of which is decorated with engraving and chrome top is gilded. The gold GT-R received some new deep-dish 3-piece wheels and some fat Falken rubber just in time for SEMA. The exhaust features the exotic Heat Blue titanium finish."

9 The Rocket Bunny Kit

This Nissan GT-R got the Rocket Bunny kit developed by the Japanese designer Kei Miura. He draws inspiration from his background in Japanese car culture. This purple-blue wrap stands out from the crowd but doesn't ruin the key features of the original design. The kit is a rare find as it isn't mass-produced.

8 The Custom Hood

With the black custom hood, this Nissan GT-R is one of a kind. This design shows that the car is an assault on the senses: the damper mode can smash your teeth out and the acceleration is so quick that you can hurt your neck. The engine sounds like a white noise sonic weapon.

7 Valenti Jewel LED Head Lamps

This Nissan GT-R features the new LED head lamps produced by a Japanese shop Valenti. They claim to be the first to make the LED lamps for the GT-R. The package is called Revo, short for Revolution. Anyway, these lamps are overwhelmingly bright. The car behind this GT-R will not miss the lights.

6 The Yellow Nissan GT-R

This Nissan GT-R features a yellow wrap that's bright but clean. This car looks and drives like no other coupe on the road, and its easy-going nature makes it a perfect daily driver – as long as you can afford the hefty running costs. The GT-R holds its own against other supercars.

5 Liberty Walk V2 GTR

Japanese tuning company Liberty Walk is popular for its widebody creations, and this Nissan GT-R isn't an exception. Front and rear fascias are new, just like the hood and the huge wing at the back. The company's signature widebody fender flares are in full effect. They are filled to the limit with 20-inch wheels.

4 Calsonic-Wrapped Nissan GT-R

In 2017, Nissan revealed this Calsonic GT-R livery. Brand representatives said that "Nissan has achieved a lot in global motorsport and there are so many great liveries to choose from. The Calsonic livery is one of Nissan's most famous and perfectly represents its racing heritage. The original Calsonic GT-R resides at the Nissan Heritage Museum."

3 Nissan Skyline GT-R R33

This car could be found at the 2020 Expo Tuning Torino. We're not sure if we're into the wide-body kit but the colors look downright incredible. Of course, the Nissan GT-R looks amazing on its own but this wrap adds contemporary style and flair to the legend.

2 Custom Front Splitter

This Nissan GT-R got a carbon-fiber front splitter with a high gloss finish. This is one of the coolest-looking custom front ends we've seen on the GT-R. Fitment is spot on. We're guessing that the splitter wasn't designed to the demands of aerodynamics. It's so big that it can sculpt the air to its needs.

1 LB Performance Kit

Here we can see a massive rear wing, which is a part of the Liberty Walk Performance kit. The kit provides exhaust, spoiler and suspension upgrades. Still, the new style compliments the original body line. This was an ordinary GT-R that was taken to the next level and given a top-notch styling.
