The Story Behind This GTO

The seller states that this is a unique chance to own what no one else will. Its described as a “real deal” 1964 GTO, with a 389 engine and a four-speed manual transmission. The car went into storage just two months after its original purchase in December 1963, and luckily it went into a climate-controlled building and as such is in remarkable condition.

The Pontiac Historic Services has been able to verify the mileage of 1,321, and the car even has its original title and window sticker. The 1964 state inspection sticker is still on its windshield, and the 1964 original license plate is still on the car.

So New It Had No Mirrors

This car is in such new, factory condition that it never had its outside mirrors put on. It has never had a repaint or any modifications, and it was not driven anywhere post February 1964. It was, however, started on a regular basis to keep everything lubricated and working, something that’s perhaps the key to being able to sell the car.

The seller states that we will never find a newer Pontiac GTO from 1964 anywhere else, and he is probably right. Finding any car in this condition is incredibly hard. The seller describes it as a time capsule thanks to so much of this car being as it was in 1963.

A Relatively Unknown GTO

The seller goes on to mention that very few people knew this car existed. A close friend of theirs contacted them and asked if they would want to acquire it as his health was sadly failing. The car was then sold from Pennsylvania and shipped to Tri-Power Automotive in Chicago and went through a thorough cleaning and inspection.

There were only a few issues with the car, such as a bit of surface rust and minor mechanical issues such as a bad temperature switch and a sticking tri-power linkage. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own an incredible piece of Pontiac history.
