It is not uncommon to see cars abandoned around the world. More often than not, these cars are rusting relics of a bygone era. An old Cadillac perhaps rusting somewhere in the United States. Or perhaps memories of the USSR, and ones that people don't want to cling onto anymore. How many old Ladas do we think are scattered all over Russia?

But that isn't always the case. Not every abandoned machine is an old crock, or indeed some historical artifact of an old regime. Surprisingly, fairly modern equipment can be found strewn across various countries. One of those places is India.

India does see its fair share in abandoned machinery, and these can indeed range from older cars but also cars from the modern era. Range Rover Sport? Yep. They can be seen. A super expensive Lamborghini supercar? Oh yes, even they can be left dotted around the country.

So, an advance warning: this article is not for the faint-hearted. For all the hardcore car fans out there, look away now...

14 Toyota Land Cruiser

Toyota Land Cruisers are very, very rugged machines. And this one clearly needs to be. It would appear to have been left with some other abandoned machines with absolutely no hope of rescue in sight.

A car like this would be well suited to the bumpier road conditions that you may encounter in India.

Perhaps something broke that was too expensive to fix. Or perhaps it’s owner just got bored of it and wanted something else. Who knows what lies ahead of this Toyota? It is always a shame to see probably perfectly functioning cars just left to die like this.

13 Chevrolet Corvair

This car being left to rot can perhaps make a little bit more sense. Sort of anyway. The Chevrolet Corvair was built between 1960-1969 and, when new and shiny, this one would no doubt have been an absolute stunner. This one though…well it has clearly seen better days, abandoned amongst a few of its kind. It is also odd to as to why this car has been left. Its vintage makes it a classic and collectible even if quite a few were produced. No one likes to see classic cars left to rot. No matter what car company made them.

12 Porsche Cayenne

The Cayenne is, not really my cup of tea, and I don’t think a lot of people were really huge fans of it. But you don’t want to see one left alone covered in bird rubbish and in general looking very so for itself. It is not a pretty sight at all. Then again, it never is seeing a car like this. You do always wonder why these cars are left in such states. What’s wrong with just bringing it home rather than leaving it in the middle of town? Then again, the Cayenne isn’t exactly the prettiest car in the world so…no, it still should be at home.

11 Bentley Continental Flying Spur

Abandoned In a side street and covered in bird droppings, this Bentley SUV represents a sorry sight as it stays out and open to the elements. It’s probably not a car we all have fond memories of really, and indeed it is clear to that its owner didn’t think much of it either. Why else would it just be sat around covered in what birds have deposited on it? Only a true car lover would come and collect their machine. Happily though, it is not in horrible condition. I just wish someone would come and give it a proper clean.

10 Humber Sceptre

Another classic machine, this one rotting in the same field as the Chevrolet Corvair earlier in the article. The Humber Sceptre is a British car, built from 1963-1976.

With the British Empire once ruling India, it is perhaps not too surprising to see one of these cars in the country, despite the Empire truly collapsing before 1963.

It was nothing special, but as a classic car it really does deserve a loving owner to look after it. Seeing this little British machine in this condition hurts almost as much as it does with the Skyline. Poor Humber. You deserve better.

9 Lamborghini Murcielago

This one will really upset people. Abandoned in a car park with accident damage, this Murcielago has truly seen better days. The Murcielago is much revered amongst Lamborghini fans, and indeed car enthusiasts in general. It was a superb machine, and one a lot of people wanted to own. This owner clearly was not that careful with his or hers example. You have to remember, it is quite a wide car and with plenty of power, so you have to be careful where you put it sometimes. Still, perhaps it can be sold on to a much more considerate owner. Hopefully at least.

8 Audi 5E

I did say to look away! Perhaps not an "oh my heart is broken" abandoned machine, but it doesn’t take a genius to work out this is a fairly new machine. This poor 5E has been left to gather dust, and have the usual "dust graffiti" left over it. The 5E is a very solid machine, so it is baffling as to why it has been deserted by its owner. Did they not like the German efficiency maybe? Or perhaps there was trouble with the law? Who knows. Whatever the reason is, it really doesn’t make it any less sad.

7 Jaguar XJR

Another car left to gather dust and slowly rust away is this gorgeous Jaguar XJR. The XJR has seen various incarnations over the years, and while it is not currently in production it can still give plenty of more modern cars a run for their money.

Jaguars are exceptionally pretty to just look at and some of the most wonderful machines you can buy.

It is surprising that someone would just leave one lying around like this, especially as it probably still works. Even more surprising would be if there were an abandoned Lamborghini Murcielago sitting next to it. If only we could make sense of this madness!

6 BMW e30 m3

imperia.by

More precision German engineering has been left to rot. This time, it is a BMW 7 Series that we see covered in dust, dirt and leaves. The photo’s do at least show a reason as to why its been left. The suspension on the left hand side is all…well, it doesn’t exactly look as if it is in working order. That would explain why it has been left to rot. Still, it doesn’t make us any happier, even if this 7 Series is also a couple of generations old. Fixed up, this car would still be fantastic. But that is a lot of damage.

5 Lamborghini Gallardo Balboni

This one is particularly sad. This is the only limited edition Gallardo Balboni left in India. Or rather, it was. And only a few these cars are left in the world. Clearly, some horrific accident befell this car and it has been left in this sorry state, despite its rarity and no one has come to take it away or to clean it up. Hard to really make sense of why someone would leave their once treasured machine in such a state. Even selling the poor thing on as spares and repair would be better than this. Oh well.

4 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow

via flickr

Yeah, I’m confused at this one too. Rolls Royce’s are dependable, reliable and elegant machines that most people want to at least own in their lifetime.

However, this one’s owner clearly didn’t care for it that much and has left it dusty and grimy in some car park.

I’m sure a huge amount of people are screaming out ‘save this beautiful machine’ but there isn’t anything we can do about it. Other than all the dirt, it does look as if it is nice condition and would probably drive off at the first time of asking. Someone, please find the keys.

3 Jaguar XF

For this car, there was actually a happy ending. This rather gorgeous Jaguar XF, the successor to the XK, was damaged in severe floods and as we can see, is not exactly in the best condition.

But it was put up for sale, for cheap, at a car auction for damaged vehicles and was sold for around $7,000 and to have the chance of a new lease of life, and hopefully one away from any scrapyards.

It is a stark contrast to the rest of the cars in this article. But it was abandoned at some point, so still goes on the list.

2 Porsche Carrera 2 Turbo

Also known as the Type 264, the Carrera 2 turbo is a nifty little car, with a removable roof that makes it a rarity some 30 odd years since production of the car stopped. So to many people, especially Porsche enthusiasts, to see one lying around in a storage facility gathering dust, awaiting customs, is not a pretty sight. Type 264 was Porsche’s internal name for the car, and it really is a little gem. It is surprising its owner has not tried to hurry up getting their hands on it again. Or have they literally forgotten they own the car?

1 Nissan GTR-R34

Please, oh god, save this car. Why is this of all cars left to rust up? The R34 Skyline is one of the most iconic machines in the world and one of Japan’s best-loved vehicles.

Most people can only dream of owning one of these cars, so for someone to seemingly forget its existence is quite frankly mind-boggling.

If it was my machine, I would look after it each and every day, clean it, treasure it etc etc. It’s a Skyline! How can you not love a Skyline? Maybe its owner found it underwhelming, as impossible as that sounds.
