The Mustang was a smash hit when it first came out in the '60s and it has spawned one amazing version after another. The GT500 was originally the love-child of Ford and Carrol Shelby and was such a dominating force in the sports car world that the badge still lives on today.

That GT500 badge now belongs to a car with more than 700 horsepower and the track chops to wreck almost any other car made today. What comes with 700 horsepower territory, usually, is insane amounts of money and, unusually, magical traction and stability controls that seem to keep you safe no matter what you do with a car. Those are two things that don't apply to the Mustang.

As we've seen in far too many videos, Mustangs are known for terrible cars and coffee exits and random crashes where you didn't think one was possible. Today we look at 15 of these Mustangs with far more power than their owners can likely handle.

I'm not sure I can imagine a moment in my life where I decide that a 600+ horsepower, topless Mustang is right for me. I don't have a deathwish and I'm not sure why these folks do. It's such a pretty car, it'll be sad when it's wrecked.

14 The Hero Shot

Frankly, I'm not sure why Ford is so bent on selling such a dangerous monster to the public, but hot dang if they're not going to do it more easily with gorgeous shots like this one. See the driver? He's got a helmet for good reason. That's using your noggin.

13 Track Day Danger

What a delightful shot. This GT500 is in one of those moments where your brain reminds you that you're in danger. See the brake lights coming on. That's not just before the turn, that's in the turn, which is especially dangerous. The stang' was just a bit quicker than this driver was ready for.

12 Coiled For Attack

It almost looks peaceful. Like a wolf in sheep's clothing though it's clearly ready to devour any challenger coming for it. Imagine a Hellcat showing up thinking it's gonna smash. It would be so sad watching this snake's taillights.

11 Smoky Snake

Normally in the box at a drag strip, you get some smoke and some noise but here it seems the Mustang is smoking out the entire drag strip arena. He's so early in the box and yet there's already so much smoke. I wouldn't want to handle this thing next to me or beneath my feet.

10 Family

What a lovely photo of a family. Grandfather and Grandson. Just so happens their both devilishly dominant forces on the track and downright dangerous on the streets. What you give up for the new car in classic-ness you gain in amazing technology and double the horsepower.

At least this snake realizes it's important to chain itself to the parking lot it's in at the moment. 700 horsepower and a few more moments of spin and those tires will be all gone and this Ford will be off the road for at least a little longer. The public can rest.

Oh look, a slightly less dangerous Mustang. I say that for a couple of reasons. First, it's not even turned on, so it's far less likely to harm you. Second, it's actually built to do fast things like going around a track without losing control.

See that lovely little E after the 500 on the side of the car. That stands for Eleanor. It means that this is a combo of body and engine mods making it one of the most ultimate GT500s ever made. That special snout and lighting package make it all the more memorable.

6 Faster Than Its Brakes Can Handle

The original GT500 was such a dominant force when it came out. That amount of power in a road car at the time was significant. That kind of power in an American road car was even more shocking. It didn't help its reputation that its brakes struggled to handle its speed.

5 Smoke Show

Not fooling anyone

Similar to our hero shot above but with a bit more cloak and dagger element. The amount of power this new Mustang makes is so large that I imagine most drivers just do random burnouts like this one at random stoplights without intending on it. It's just so much power to handle.

4 Heat Tracking

Snakes such as pit vipers are known for the heat tracking capability. Even in the darkest of nights they can see their prey so long as it's warm. This Super Snake seems to be eyeing a new track record and all of those vents and scoops are functional to help it handle the heat it sees.

3 Drift Stang

For the first time in this list, we see a Mustang taking those spinning tires and adding a little sideways twist to the action. I commend the driver for keeping speeds slow and seemingly controlling this particular GT500 pretty well. Nevertheless, you wonder how long this could've gone on without some damage.

The owner of this Mustang is an absolute menace. Not only does he own this monster but he's put stickers all over it to remind you how dangerous it is. Then he imported it to a European country where they're not used to this kind of dangerous car. Maybe the state made him paint it green so people could see it coming.

Look at the lift on this Mustang. This is the only acceptable way to lift a sports car. Tons of horsepower. The GT500 is no stranger to the drag strip and you can see it here in its element dominating the attention of everyone in attendance. If you have to own a Mustang, or see one, this is the place to do it. Keep racing on the racetrack and we'll all be a little safer.
