When it comes to speed, domestic automobile manufacturers reign supreme. Their cars are steeped in drag racing heritage. Our most famous cars, muscle cars, are engineered to do one thing: go very fast in a straight line, and all of these deliver. Many of these cars have evolved from muscle cars and turned into full-on sports cars or even supercars. Not only are they ridiculously quick to 60 miles an hour, they are comfortable, stylish, and well-built, they give their drivers the best of everything you could want in a sports car.

These cars are really quick. The slowest one on this list is 2.9 seconds to 60, and the quickest is 1.9 seconds. Many of these cars can beat other famous hypercars in drag races, including the Porsche 918 Spyder and Bugatti Chiron. They do this at much lower prices, as well. They can make just about anything look slow, and represent some of the best engineering in the world. Domestic car brands lead the world in the development of electric cars, with various Tesla models able to dust foreign supercars with ease.

A name you’ll see repeated on this list is “Hennessey”, and for good reason. Founded in 1991, the company has spent 25 years tuning domestic sports cars to crazy levels, as well as developing their own amazing cars. They offer tunes and packages for nearly all sporty domestic cars, and the numbers range from a “tame” 600 horsepower to beasts making over 1,000 horsepower. Keep reading for a breakdown the fastest domestic sports cars.

15 Hennessey Cadillac CTS-V HPE1000 – 2.9 seconds

via Hennessey

With 1,000 horsepower and 966 lb/ft of torque, it’s no surprise that Hennessey’s CTS-V package can get to 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds.

The sport sedan gets cosmetic upgrades that vastly improve its appearance and make it look much more aggressive than the stock version, but this car is still a sleeper.

Many people still think of Cadillacs as slow, lumbering cars that their grandparents drove. No longer – the CTS-V, under Hennessey’s strong hand, is enough to surprise anyone on the road who expects sedan performance from this car. It’s not often that you find a 1,000+ horsepower car that you can drive the kids to school in…

14 Ford GT – 2.9 seconds

via Ford

The newly released Ford GT is a wonderful domestic supercar that buyers everywhere desire. Previously renowned for its racing performance, the new GT is a stunner.

According to Ford, the GT’s 3.5-liter V6 Ecoboost engine pumps of 647 horsepower, propelling this car to 60 mph in a rapid 2.9 seconds. Easily one of the quickest cars on this list, the GT blows foreign competitors away when it comes to speed and style. It drives well, too – a light carbon fiber body provides for a nimble ride, and dynamic active aero keeps the GT glued to the road and pumping out power.

13 Tesla Model X P100D 'Ludicrous Speed' Upgrade – 2.8 seconds

via Pinterest

And here, we have the quickest SUV in production: the Tesla Model X P100D.

It accelerates to 60 mph in 2.8, which (shown by Motor Trend) is quicker than you can actually say “0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds.” The Model X is also rated as the safest SUV on the market, according to Tesla.

With room for 7 passengers and an electric range of 295 miles, the Model X is also incredibly practical. Its falcon-wing-style rear doors allow your kids to hop in and out easily, even in the tightest of parking spaces. Are you familiar with the Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, and Ferrari 488 GTB? Forget about them – the Model X gets to 60 miles per hour quicker than all of them.

12 Hennessey Charger SRT Hellcat HPE1000 – 2.7 seconds

via Top Speed

This is definitely not your run of the mill Dodge Charger.

1,012 horsepower and 969 lb/ft of torque drag the Hennessey-tuned 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.7 seconds. Their cars that make appearances on this list just get quicker and quicker.

The Charger, much like the CTS-V, can be used as a total sleeper. No one expects the car that is used for police cruisers to be quicker than supercars, but they would be wrong here. With “premium” floor mats and a 1-year warranty included with the price of this build, the Hennessey Charger truly is a car that you can use for family purposes.

11 Hennessey Camaro HPE850 – 2.6 seconds

via Hennessey

The 2017 Hennessey-tuned Camaro HPE850 makes 858 horsepower from the motor, enough to propel the coupe from 0 to 60 miles per hour in a rapid 2.6 seconds. This amount of power gets the Camaro through the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds at 135 miles per hour, which is an excellent time.

The Camaro has been engineered a little smarter than the Charger and CTS-V, as it is significantly quicker with much less power. However, in order to achieve this 0 to 60 time, testers had to use drag radials. When used on a production car, that means there is a ton of power available.

10 2015 Tesla Model S P90D 'Ludicrous Speed' Upgrade – 2.6 seconds

via Wired

Even in its early days, the Tesla Model S was blowing our minds. This car is now three years old, but the P90D model with “Ludicrous Speed” upgrade is able to get from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.6 seconds, as quick as the aforementioned Camaro is.

When the Model S was released, there were plenty of skeptics, but its incredible performance quickly silenced all dissent.

Available used for as low as $48,000, the older Model S is an affordable (as far as sports cars go) way to get to 60 without a screaming Hennessey V8 motor by doing all this in total silence.

9 Hennessey Venom GT – 2.5 seconds

via Hennessey

The record-breaking Hennessey Venom GT astounds the automotive world. It takes just 2.7 seconds to get to 60 mph, which is very respectable. The next number is far more impressive… the Venom GT gets to 200 mph in a stunning 14.51 seconds, which is a hypercar world record.

It also boasts a recorded top speed of 270 mph, according to Hennessey. This astounding car makes an impressive 1244 horsepower and 1155 lb-ft of torque, and if that’s too much for you, Hennessey made the power adjustable to levels of 800, 1,000, and 1,244 horsepower. This amazing car is a testament to the engineering ability of crazy (or brilliant) locals.

8 Hennessey Corvette Stingray HPE1000 – 2.5 seconds

via Hennessey

Unsurprisingly, the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray makes our list. Also unsurprisingly, it has been tuned by Hennessey.

This Corvette makes 1,008 horsepower and 918 lb/ft of torque, getting from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds. With a 10-speed automatic transmission, this Corvette has a top speed of 210 miles per hour, which is staggering.

If you are lucky enough to be able to afford this tune and to find a straight enough road to test this top speed, have at it. A 2-year warranty means that you can try for this crazy figure again and again, with the promise of a new engine in store if things go sour.

7 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder – 2.4 seconds

via Hennessey

Not only does the newer Hennessey Venom GT Spyder have an incredible 0 to 60 time of 2.4 seconds, it holds an impressive world record as well: it is the world’s fastest convertible, with a top speed of 265.6 miles per hour.

While this is slightly slower than the hardtop’s 0 to 60 time, this is one that is capable of perhaps ripping your toupee off of your head. This is 11 miles per hour faster than the previous world record holder, the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport Vitesse. The Veyron costs significantly more than the Venom, making this the obvious hypercar of choice; that is if you have the money to pay for such a thing.

6 Faraday Future FF91 – 2.4 seconds

via Faraday

Faraday is a smallish domestic start-up that specializes in making electric vehicles. The Faraday Future FF91 is a crossover that can get from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.4 seconds.

The Tesla-fighter is also rated at 1,050 horsepower from its electric motors and has a rapid charging speed. The range is estimated to be around 278 miles per hour, which is on par with Tesla’s range options.

While the FF91 is still in development, it will be incredibly interesting to see how it fares when it finally makes its way onto the road.

5 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon – 2.3 seconds

via Car and Driver

The Dodge Challenger makes an appearance on this list, perhaps surprisingly. Challengers are known for performance, sure. However, they are not known for truly over the top performance.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is lighting fast, with a 0 to 60 time of an almost unbelievable 2.3 seconds. This is quicker than many foreign (and domestic) supercars, which is awfully surprising from this hefty muscle-turned-sport car. In fact, it’s 0.3 seconds quicker than the 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder. This Dodge is able to make crazy numbers without Hennessey’s helping hand.

4 Tesla Model S P100D 'Ludicrous Plus' Upgrade – 2.3 seconds

via Energy World Magazine

While the Tesla Model S P100 D may not be the quickest car around a track due to its heavy batteries, it outperforms the vast majority of other sports cars when it comes to acceleration. While the batteries do weigh the car down, they provide a low center of gravity that improves corning ability.

A starting price of $135,000 gets you a 0 to 60 time of 2.3 seconds, which is achieved in part by the Tesla’s drag coefficient: 0.23, the lowest on Earth, according to Tesla’s website.

The P100D is even as quick as the Bugatti Chiron.

3 2002 Hennessey Dodge Viper Venom 1000TT – 2.2 seconds

via Reddit

The lightning-quick Hennessey Dodge Viper Venom 1000TT gets from a standstill to 60 miles per hour in just 2.2 seconds. Proving that age is just a number, this 16-year old car is rapid and mind-blowing thanks to the engineering of the folks at Hennessey and the car’s massive twin-turbocharged V10 engine.

1,100 lb/ft of torque shred tires and propel drivers to ludicrous speeds, with this car having the ability to top out at 215 miles per hour.

Such high speeds are dangerous even in modern cars with all of their safety features, and it would take a true lunatic to attempt this speed in an old Viper.

2 2002 Chevrolet Corvette (Lingenfelter 427 Twin Turbo) – 1.97 seconds

via Car and Driver

800 horsepower and 830 lb/ft of torque take the Lingenfelter-tuned 2002 Chevrolet Corvette to 60 miles per hour in a scant 1.97 seconds. It runs the quarter mile in just 9.1 seconds, which is mind-blowing. Under controlled driving habits, this Corvette is reportedly docile on the streets.

This makes it somewhat of a sleeper, as no one expects an older Corvette to be this quick. Car and Driver reports that the unfortunate passengers of this car are comically rocked back and forth in between shifts of this muscular car, with its power clearly on full display.

1 1994 Ford SVT Boss Mustang 10.0L Concept – 1.9 seconds

via YouTube

The quickest car to 60 miles per hour on this list is the Ford SVT Boss Mustang Concept. This Mustang is just crazy. As it is a concept, only one was ever produced, but it blew minds when it was racing.

The car, produced in 1994, goes from 0 to 60 in just 1.9 seconds. It takes longer to say “zero to sixty in 1.9 seconds” than it does for this Mustang to actually get to 60 mph. This rapid time was achieved on drag slicks, which is unsurprising given that this car makes 855 horsepower.
