When Tesla launched the Cybertruck, there was perhaps naturally, quite a mixed reaction to it. On the one hand, an electric pickup is very cool and a clear sign of the direction the automotive world is going.

On the other hand, it looked absolutely hideous. Like a piece of metal that had been pulled over the frame of a pickup. It is safe to say that Cybertruck is not going to win any awards, anytime soon.

There has been a multitude of pickup trucks produced over the years, and pretty much all of them are better looking and better in general, than the Cybertruck.

Here is a list of 15 pickup trucks that we would much, much rather have than the god awful Cybertruck.

Yes, they will not help the environment like the Cybertruck. But you certainly won’t be embarrassed every time you step into one of these trucks. And you certainly won’t stand out like a lemon.

15 Ford F150

via Ford Cars

Perhaps one of the most popular pickups that you can buy these days, the Ford F150 has been a powerhouse of the company for many, many years. Its rugged design and strong reliability service it well, and it often comes out on top against its mine rival from Chevrolet, the Silverado. The F150 would get my money for sure.

14 Chevrolet Silverado

via GM Authority

Speaking of the Silverado, here it is! Chevrolet’s flagship truck has been in the range for many years and as mentioned, is the main rival to the Ford F150. There always seems to be a conflict of opinion as to whether it is as good a truck as the F150, but whatever the case it still sells just as well as its Ford rival.

13 Toyota Hilux

via Wikipedia

The Hilux is famous, world-famous. Why? Because on Top Gear, they took a Hilux to the very brink of destruction but it would not die. Set on fire too, left in the sea and placed on top of a tower block…that was being demolished. It would still start and drive. Nothing could kill it. That alone puts it on this list. It even went to the North Pole with Top Gear as well.

12 Volkswagen Amarok

via 2019 Cars Coming Out

Europe is not really that famous for pickup trucks, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any out there. There are, and they can be quite good too. The Amarok is quite a sophisticated machine, even if its ride quality isn’t great. It’s an absolute beast which, can be a downside. But it is more than up to the job of most American trucks.

11 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6X6

via Concept Carz

This thing is just insane. Outrageous, expensive, and just a hint of crazy. The 6X6 has a whopping 536bhp, twin-turbo 5.5L V8 engine powering it which is insane for most sports cars. The thing is pricey too and can go for around $700,000. So it certainly isn’t a truck to consider if you are on a budget. Heck, it might be even more insane than the Cybertruck and that’s saying something!

10 Datsun 620

via Bring a Trailer

Datsun had the honor of bringing the first Japanese trucks to the US market. The Datsun 620 followed the 120 and 220 on from the 1950s, and it came with the same gorgeous looks that those did. They are simple, clean and uncluttered designs. They even featured king cabs which were novel for the time. But it was the looks department that made this so good.

9 Dodge Ram SRT 10

via CNC Exotics

A big brute, and perhaps not the best looking one either. But the Ram SRT 10 is a very capable truck indeed. It boasted 500bhp and was able to get from 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. That’s sports car performance figures, it is an absolute missile of a truck. You’d certainly be able to tell if one of these was coming at you!

8 Nissan Hardbody

via Bring a Trailer

Whilst the Datsuns were very successful, there was obviously going to be a need for a successor. Enter, the Nissan Hardbody. Also known as the D21. These things were tough, dependable but also with a sense of style that stopped them from being too utilitarian like. Some versions had all-wheel drive, adding to the value of owning one of these trucks.

7 1937 Chevrolet Pickup

via Mecum

Why have we included this truck here? Well, it’s all very well and good owning a Silverado, but they are not the most attractive of trucks. This though is and epitomizes the hot-rod era when people took some cars and modified them to the extreme. It might not do as much as a modern truck, but I’d still love to own one.

6 Mazda Rotary Pickup

via Curbside Classic

The Mazda Rotary truck was an interesting one, in the sense that it was not the strongest towing vehicle. Or was it that economic. But, its Wankel rotary engine of 110bhp made a unique and exciting sound that was a selling point for this car in its own right. On top of that, it looked fantastic and red-lined at 7,000 like a Japanese sports car of the time. Mega.

5 Lamborghini LM002

via Born Rich

The Lamborghini LM002 has remained a curiosity in the Italian company' ranger, ever since it was launched in 1986. No one was sure if it was a pickup or an SUV. But with the same engine as the Countach, there was no doubting its power output. Only 301 were ever made, making them one of the rarest pickups out there.

4 GMC Syclone

via YouTube

The GMC Syclone was a high-performance variation of GM’s half-ton pick-up. It was only in production from 1991-1992 but in that time it earned a good reputation for power and dependability. All-wheel drive and the first truck in production to be fitted with anti-lock brakes. On all four wheels that is. The Cyclone was very advanced and it was a shame it wasn’t with us for very long.

3 Dodge Power Wagon

via Automobile Mag

The Dodge Power Wagon is certainly a bit of a beast of a vehicle. Their rugged and simple design made them ideal, everyday workhorses. It’s imposing looks could certainly grab people's attention as well. It was in production from 1946-1980, a long lifespan and it certainly served many people very well. It even had all-wheel drive!

2 Dodge Ram (Second Generation)

via Jalopnik

The first-generation Dodge Ram didn’t really capture anyone’s imagination. It was a bit clumsy looking and that didn’t give it a very modern feel. Enter, the second generation model. And that certainly had a modern feel! This alone helped to make the new Ram more successful than the first, and some of its features are still in trucks to this day.

1 Ford Ranchero

via Bring a Trailer

Is it a truck? Is it a coupe? Either way, it certainly looks awesome! As you can probably guess, the Ranchero was not exactly built to tow anything. And if you tried, you wouldn’t get anywhere quickly. But it did spawn a rival from GM, which perhaps overshadowed it. The Ranchero though was an awesome vehicle and certainly gave a lot of style to the pickup range.
