From the earliest days of the automobile, man has continued to test his metal and his mettle against other cars in various forms of racing. Today no form holds a position as strange as that of Street racing. While it's the worst possible setting for high-speed competition, it has translated over generations. It has never stopped and in fact, has grown to a worldwide phenomenon.

Today we take a look at 15 pictures from the planet that demonstrate that despite its illegality, automotive enthusiasts are willing to risk it all for the opportunity to get the high of being the fastest in the group.

15 Puzzle Pieces

These Washington based Nissans are prepping for their night on the streets and I love how they're all covered in similar graphics. Each one has its own style and mods surely, but having matching graphics is something that joins them together, no matter where you see them. Well-fitting puzzle pieces.

14 Volvo Power

These cars are racing in Europe it looks like to me. Old school cool too. That yellow car is a Volvo, folks. For my money, it looks better and faster than the Mustang too. The majority of those old cars have been LS Swapped today so they're far more dangerous than they used to be.

13 Giving People The Blues

GT-Rs are probably going to be similar to the Mitsubishi Eclipse in the future. By that I don't mean slow and broken, I just mean you won't be able to find a stock one to save your life. This one is clearly built to hurt feelings.

12 Out of Towners

This video, shot in Mexico features two cars that couldn't be further from home. The GT-R is a technological masterpiece and the Gallardo in the far lane is putting itself in danger of being made to look way too expensive for the speed it provides. I would love to know what the camera car is though. It seems to be pretty quick too.

Doesn't this look like the classic street racing scene most people think of? The Trans Am WS6 is a serious powerhouse and one of the few muscle cars you can find out there with a 6-speed too. The Fox Body Mustang is also a legend. I wonder who won.

Speaking of cars that might just be putting themselves in danger, how about this Bugatti Veyron in Europe? What could the owner possibly be thinking? What if he gets walked by a 2000 horsepower GT-R? This Veyron lost to an E34 BMW so we know it can happen to any of them.

9 Overkill

I looked hard for the original source here but we all know these cars are a little bit more powerful than your average streetcar. Look at those super skinny front tires. How about the giant tires on the back. This pair has certainly seen a regulation drag strip. They just couldn't get enough, so they took it to the street.

8 Hurting Feelings

Many street racing scenes have started to heavily frown upon anyone showing up in a Tesla. The trouble is that they're simply faster than almost anything else out there. Unless you show up with something like twin-turbos, a V8 and some NOS you'll have no chance of keeping up. Then you have to put all that power down while the Tesla just jets away.

7 Classic Speed

There aren't a great many of these vintage Celicas running around anymore. They're truly the last great Celica you can buy. They had all-wheel-drive and some had rear-wheel steering too. They look crazy too so if you find a good one you can have something that is truly special. I would be surprised if that G35 next to this one could keep up.

6 What Curfew?

This photo was recently snapped in Lousiville Kentucky. It is one of the few groups still left meeting up and spending time together despite the ban on large groups there due to Covid-19. There are no doubts, racing is at least one thing in these people's veins.

5 USA VS Germany

Another photo from the same event, this features the only foreign car in the group. That BMW is probably going to have a handful to deal with regarding that Challenger. The 3 Series is a quick and comfortable car, but even the most mundane V8 Challengers are running around with nearly 500 horsepower.

4 En Fuego

Out of the UAE, these big bulls are clearly just getting started as we see them in this crowded scene. It's so rare to see a production car that can do anything the Aventador can, but you can add spitting flames to that list now. This thing is dangerous no matter if you're inside of it or out.

3 Old School vs New School

Would you rather have massive power or measured power and more surefootedness? Each driver here has certainly made their choice. The rowdy Audi is going to leave the line hard no matter what and the real question is whether that Camaro can put its power to the pavement and keep up.

2 Aussies Race Too

Aussies will tell you that they're always in danger of having their cars ticketed or towed. The laws there are especially strict with regards to hooking. Nevertheless, and again, despite the dangers, you can see the exceptional modifications they're making to their streetcars. No sir officer, these giant turbos are for merging on the highway.

1 The Huracan Can

It looks like this car is from California. The Huracan pictured here looks totally stock to me aside from some aftermarket wheels and most likely some sticky tires. Nonetheless, it's obviously the most dangerous car we see here. The Infiniti and Porsche couldn't keep up if they tried but I imagine someone in that group of racers we see has something more potent.
