The last thing that anybody wants with their car is reliability issues. These could well plague a car for most of its life, and they might not be easy to fix either. Half of the issue is that if it is a fundamental problem with a car, then it will be there until you get a new one. And you will have to sort it out yourself too.
Even the biggest car manufacturers are not immune to reliability issues. It might come as a surprise, but Ford is very much prone to suffering all manner of issues. From rather simple oil leaks to frightening cases of a door falling off, it has happened to cars made by the blue oval.
This list contains some of those problems that the execs at Ford may well not want us to see! Some of them are not too major but others will make you sit up in shock that they could actually happen.
15 Major Oil Leaks
The last thing you are going to want in a car is an oil leak. They are a pain to fix and oil is an essential part of keeping a car running and healthy. Unfortunately, some Ford models are quite prone to oil leaks. One of those was the Ford Aerostar that did quite frankly leak like a sieve.
14 Transmission Roll Pins
An important element of efficient operation of a car, Ford has had numerous issues with transmission roll pins. Particularly on the F-150. In 2017 there were quite a few recalls of the model, with the ten-speed transmissions fitted to the trucks given all manner of problems. This was something Ford didn’t want on its flagship pickup truck.
13 Bodywork Issues
This isn’t just a Ford problem, it can affect multiple cars of multiple makes. But it’s still not a good thing. Anytime you start to get bodywork rust, or damage of any kind, you start to worry. The bodywork is of course what everyone will see in your car. Various metal changes in some models have caused Ford to suffer these issues.
12 Safety For Kids
This is a serious concern for any manufacturer. Not just the safety of kids either, but the safety of everyone involved. Ford had to recall around 10,000 vehicles back in 2013 thanks to some of the rear door child locks malfunctioning. This caused a lot of stress and anguish for many of their users.
11 Connectivity
So many cars these days have infotainment systems in them. They have almost become a crucial part of what makes a car tick. Ford has suffered in recent years with connectivity issues regarding its system, with the software failing to communicate with users phones and voice recognition is a bit of an issue.
10 Power Steering
Trust us when we say that you don't want a steering problem in your car. Sadly for Ford, they have experienced certain problems when it comes to some cars' power steering. The Ford Falcon is one model that has suffered here, and the car has pulled to one side according to some owners.
9 Horrific Exhaust Sounds
The exhaust is where all the gasses omit from the back of the car, and it is where a lot of the sound comes from too. If there is a hole in the exhaust system, or the muffler if it has one, then that could create a horrific noise. Some models such as the Ford Telstar were really prone to breaking exhausts and it was a bit of a nuisance for the drivers.
8 Dodgy A/C And Ventilation
Problematic A/C systems are a pain in the rear. The A/C systems and the air ventilation can indeed fail on some cars. The Ford Edge SE has suffered terribly with this, which when driving in a high-temperature environment can really cause issues.
7 Handling Issues
Oh god. Does anyone really want to have handling issues on their car? Not really. Similar to the power steering issue, a lot of Ford owners have seen the handling of the car bias more towards one way or the other. When driving at higher speed this can become quite frightening, and not something anyone should have to deal with.
6 Vehicle Jerks
When your vehicle is jumping up and down uncontrollably and it is scaring the hell out of you, you might not really be having a good time. Sadly for some owners of 2003 Ford Explorers, that has become an issue. And it has happened on other models of cars too. The 2016 Ford F-150 also had some uncontrollable jerking issues.
5 Awkward Visual System
The problem a lot of these infotainment and touch screen displays have is that they are a bit awkward. We all have a friend who drives a Ford, and it is an absolute nightmare to suffer through their infotainment systems.
It is slow and unresponsive at times and does actually work best if you simply use the voice commands so you can focus on the driving side.
4 Spark Plug Problems
Sparkplug issues are no fun at all!! Some Ford owners know what a drag it can be. The Ford Explorer V8 certainly suffered from some interesting issues regarding spark plugs, in that they would simply eject themselves from the engine! Not only is that bad, but it is also quite frankly slightly terrifying!
3 Doors Flying Off
Doors are perhaps one of the most vital parts of a car. They keep you safely secured in the machine and are your barrier should there be an accident. But, some of the F-Series had to be recalled as the doors would simply fly off mid-journey! I can’t think of many things that would be scarier than that.
2 Engine Issues
A lot of cars will suffer from engine issues. And the Ford company is no exception here either. Sometimes a car can be fundamentally unreliable, or there are one or two bad apples that blemish an otherwise spotless record. Ford Fusion’s from 2013-2014 had some reliability issues, and a risk of fire was present in the engine. Naturally, these were swiftly recalled.
1 Fuel Mileage Concerns
Fuel mileage is probably one of the biggest things we look for when buying a car, of any kind. Ford being no exception. Whilst it was a sports car, the 2004-2006 Ford GT suffered from horrific fuel mileage, way worse than equivalent cars from the likes of Pagani or Aston Martin at the time.
