Porsche has been using four-cylinder engines longer than most people realize – and they have brought success to the company. In the 50s, the 718 successor – the Porsche 550 Spyder – got the highest configuration version of the four-cylinder engine.

These cars competed at the European Hill Climb Championship and 12-hour races in Sebring and left competitors behind. The modern Cayman is a premium coupe first introduced in 2006 with a design inspired by the Boxster roadster. With a name change to the 718 Cayman, the engine continues to thrive in the Cayman family.

The Porsche 718 Cayman T is a smart combination of value-added equipment and performance-enhancing units with signature visuals. The standard Cayman is a beautiful car, but the T version adds more precision and grip. It offers more power and torque than before. Here are 15 reasons we can't stop driving the Porsche 718 Cayman T.

15 2.0L Turbocharged Engine

The heart of the Cayman T is the 2.0L turbocharged engine that sits right behind the driver. It's mounted deep into the car for the perfect center of gravity. The car got multiple features that enhance its performance, including direct fuel injection and dry-sump lubrication. Each model got a particulate filter to meet emission standards.

The engine pushes the Cayman T from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds. If you invest in optional Launch Control and PDK, the time will be reduced to 4.7 seconds. High engine speeds and high compression offer greater power output. At its peak, the car reaches 275 km/h at 6500 rpm.

13 Sleek And Dominant Side Profile

Sleek and dominant side profile draws our attention to the Porsche 718 Cayman T. Exterior mirrors, large wheel arches and 20-inch Carrera S wheels provide finishing touches. Then there is a striking signature on each side – decorative strips with the car logo. All 718 models stand out from the crowd.

12 Recognizable Powerful Form

The car features Porsche's signature powerful body shape. Huge air intakes ensure optimum airflow and the wings "lend prominence to the design of the integrated Bi-Xenon main headlights – with LED daytime running lights." Another eye-catcher is the sports exhaust system with a black twin tailpipe. The profile is wide, low and sleek.

11 Pure Black Interior Design

The interior is finished in black. On the gear lever and the steering wheel, there is smooth-finish leather. Understated door pull loops, black center console and trim strips on the dashboard round off the design. The steering wheel features the mode switch, where you can select one of four driving modes.

10 Interior Packages

With many optional interior packages, you can choose different color accents: GT Silver, Guards Red, Racing Yellow or Lizard Green. These accents can be found on door pull loops, seat belts, decorative stitching, and headrests. Porsche logo appears on floor mats. Buyers also get unique stitching on the seat centers with the Sport-Tex stripe pattern.

9 PASM Sports Suspension

Porsche Torque Vectoring increases stability and performance. The system regulates the rear differential lock and a variable torque distribution on the rear wheels. When the car goes through a corner, mild brake pressure is applied to the wheels. Then the system sends a rotational pulse (yaw movement) to the vertical axis.

7 The Mode Switch

The mode switch lets you select one of 4 settings: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, or Individual mode. Just change the position of the switch to adapt the car to your driving style. In the Sport mode, the car feels sharper. Driving dynamics become direct; the sports exhaust system is activated.

In the interests of purity, the company took the infotainment system out to reduce weight. Buyers can spec it back free of charge. To reduce the weight even further, Porsche replaced classic door pulls with straps that look and feel like they came from a race car. Various cosmetic tweaks make it stand out.

3 Improved Handling

The Porsche 718 Cayman T offers handling that delights, which is one of the main advantages of the T treatment. There is less understeer, and body control is responsive. Drivers get more detailed feedback through the steering wheel, while Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts transports power to the rear wheels.

2 10% Faster Steering Rack

The steering rack comes from the 911 Turbo, but it's 10% faster and more responsive. The exhaust offers 2 volumes, and when fitted with the PDK, the car gets the Sport Response turbo-boost button. The standard tires are 235/35ZR20 up front and 265/35ZR20 out back. Active suspension cushions bumps. Optional are ceramic brakes.

1 Crisper And Rawer Than The Base Cayman

The Porsche 718 Cayman T answers faster to the driver's orders and sounds meaner. It feels crisper and rawer than the base 718 Cayman, even though it offers the same power. Big tires instill more lateral grip and deliver fierce traction. When choosing optional features, consider heated seats and a larger fuel tank.
