Ferrari is an acclaimed sports and luxury car manufacturers. Since its first car was built, Enzo Ferrari, the founder, put his brand in a concrete position on the grounds of the automobile market.

The Ferrari 250 GTO was produced from 1962 to 1964. It was a highly limited production with only 36 GTOs manufactured. The GTO was built to compete in Group 3 GT racing against Jaguar E-type and Cobra and was designed by a prominent engineer active in the 1950s, Giotto Bizzarrini.

The project was continued by Mauro Forghieri who later collaborated with Ferrari in designing Formula One cars. The initial price at the time of its production was $18,000 in the United States. Now its value is in the millions. It just goes to show the value there is in rare classic cars! Here are 15 photos to remind you of the worth of Ferrari’s magnificent 250 GTO.

The Ferrari 250 GTO was built with an eccentric concept of combining luxury and sports in a two-door and designed as a grand tourer berlinetta capable of sustaining long-distance drives. The aerodynamic engineering was integrated into a lightweight frame and increased speed. Meanwhile the interior was kept minimalistic and the body compact.

GTO was manufactured in many variant colors in blue and silver. But it was the lush red Rosso Cina that stood out among the public appeal after which the car was trademarked with their characteristic red color. 9 Classic Technology

Taking into account the technology of the time, the Ferrari GTO did not have any ulterior designed technology fixed in the cockpit. Although the developing aerodynamic engineering tech into the car's mechanics was an unprecedented innovation in the automobile industry, Ferrari GTO doesn’t come with many crucial innovations like a speedometer or interior ventilation.

The front-engine rear-wheel-drive layout had a dedicated lightweight and stability built in the engine mechanics. A total of six 6 Weber 38 DCN carburetors were incorporated to maintain the internal combustion. While a positive compression ratio of 9.8: 1 contributed to increasing the speed by alternately decreasing the weight of the body.

5 Raw Power

The front and rear suspension fixed inside the GTO mechanics offer agility and stability simultaneously. With semi-elliptic springs incorporated in the rear suspension, the car offers better sturdiness and can sustain load with less deflection. The chassis is built with tubular steel for maximum speed obtained by decreasing the overall weight.

2 Massive Tank

The fuel tanks hold a spacious capacity of 130 liters. With a dry-sump lubrication system supplemental storage of extra oil in a tank outside the engine. The dry sump elevates the aerodynamics of the body construction by lowering the engine mass. Moreover, it holds more oil than a wet sump lubrication system.

1 Brilliant Handling

Telescopic shock absorbers fitted in the front and rear suspension minimize the violent jerking experience during sudden acceleration or braking. This gives more flexible control over the sports car and increases the stability of the car which can maintain its speed and show off screeching drifts without damage or peril of accidents.
