Ralph Lauren is an American fashion designer, philanthropist, and billionaire businessman best known for his multi-billion-dollar fashion behemoth; the Ralph Lauren Corporation. He was born to immigrant parents in the United States and went on to serve in the Army before getting a job at Brooks Brothers as a sales assistant in the tie division.

The Ralph Lauren Corporation started out in 1967, specializing in men’s ties, later expanding into other aspects of the fashion industry as well. In 2015, Lauren stepped down as CEO of the company, but he remains active in the business as Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer. Today, Ralph Lauren’s personal fortune is estimated at over $6 billion, making him one of the richest men in America.

What's not so well known about the fashion icon is his love for rare and unique automobiles. With a fortune of that size, what’s to stop him from amassing one of the most enviable car collections in the world today? His car collecting hobby started in the 1970s with cars such as the 1971 Mercedes 280SE 4.5 convertible and currently includes many ultra-exclusive cars worth millions of dollars. Here’s a list of some of the really special examples in the billionaire’s private collection.

15 Ferrari 375 Plus

The 375 Plus was built by Ferrari in 1954 as a pure-breed racing car, and the car did just that, winning famous races including 24 Hours of le Mans and 1,000Km of Buenos Aires. Only 5 units of this iconic car were built. In 2014, the first unit produced sold at auction for a princely sum of $18.3 million.

This is another low-production Ferrari racing car that dominated the racing circuit in its prime. At one time, the car had the lightest and most aerodynamic configuration for a racing sports car. It's difficult to accurately determine its worth today since these cars are rarely traded at auctions. However, in 2011, a prototype chassis did sell for over $16 million.

This is a track-focused edition of the legendary McLaren F1. It was developed based on the F1 GTR, with necessary modifications for it to be classified as a road-going vehicle. The "LM" stands for Le Mans, in honor of the F1 GTRs that participated in the 1995 edition of the popular 24-hour race. A total of 6 units have ever been built, and 5 of them were ultimately sold to customers.

12 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe

This is arguably one of the most valuable cars in the Ralph Lauren collection. Understandably so, given the iconic status of the brand and the fact that only 2 original units of the aluminum-bodied car exist today. In 2010, one of them changed hands for a whopping $40 million. Now, that’s an expensive piece of automotive history!

90 units of this lightweight roadster were produced, making it a limited-edition acquisition for anyone lucky enough to snag one. The car was powered by a 1.5-liter flat-four engine coupled to a manual transmission that could propel the car to a top speed of 140 mph; mighty impressive for any car at that time.

This unique car was specially commissioned by Count Trossi, an Italian racecar driver and auto-maker. The Mercedes-Benz SSK is representative of an era when cars were custom-built art pieces. Only 30 units of this car were produced and this one is made even more special because of the special individual touches by the Count.

The 250 GTO may just be the most expensive car in Lauren's collection. In 2018, one particularly fine example exchanged hands in a private sale for $70 million. It was the last iteration of Ferrari's 250 model and featured a 3-liter V12 capable of almost 300 hp. Every owner of the car at the time had to be personally approved by Enzo Ferrari himself.

The Jaguar XKSS was essentially a racing car converted for road use. It was the result of a decision by Jaguar to withdraw from motorsports and focus on its road car business in 1956. The car was mainly aimed at an exclusive market in the United States. Unfortunately, only 16 were completed before a factory fire wiped out the remaining inventory.

What’s better than one McLaren F1 in the collection? Two, of course! This is the ‘regular’ production version of the hypercar. The McLaren F1 was revolutionary and completely redefined what sportscar performance was all about. It featured unique components such as a central driving position and gold foil as a heat shield in the exhaust bay. This ageless car is almost 3 decades old but the design continues to impress, even by modern-day standards.

The Jaguar XK120 was first shown off to the public at the 1948 London Motorshow. It immediately captured the attention of the public with its slick lines and curvaceous styling. The first 120 units of the car were produced with an aluminum bodywork before the automaker switched to steel. Today, the alloy roadsters are worth much more than the steel ones.

The fashion powerhouse obviously has a thing for vintage Jaguars. The Jaguar XKD was purpose-built for success in the 24-Hour Le Mans race and has had a production run from 1954 to 1957. The car did go on to enjoy much success at the endurance race; in fact, it took 5 of the 6 winning spots at the 1957 Le Mans.

This is one of the more modern cars in Lauren's collection today. According to the Telegraph, Ralph Lauren bought this car "to drive and not to collect." Who can blame him? The P1 boasts a total of almost 900 bhp and can do a 0-60 mph sprint in 2.8 seconds, before going on to hit its acclaimed top speed of 217mph.

Ralph Lauren once compared the car to an "incredibly sleek sculpture or the explosive architecture of a modern master like Frank Gehry." That’s not too far-fetched, considering the car’s design and styling was inspired by fighter jets. 20 units of the coupe versions were produced for customers; they were all sold almost immediately.

2 LaFerrari

The name simply translates to "The Ferrari," and with this car, the intention of the Italian automaker was very clear: to place this V12 monster at the top of the hypercar food chain. When it was launched in 2013, it was the fastest road-going Ferrari ever produced. Ralph Lauren’s example is finished in black, making it even more exclusive.

1 Porsche 918 Spyder

Ralph Lauren bought not one but two units of the 918 Spyder to add to his collection. He must have been really impressed by the car’s subtle elegance. The hypercar is no slouch in the handling department either. 0-60 mph takes only 2.5 seconds and the combined output of over 800 bhp from its combustion engine and electric motors will take the car to a top speed in excess of 217 mph.
