15 It Might Look Vintage - But It's Not
Airstream has been around for decades. To be exact, Airstream trailers were first introduced in the late 1920s and have stuck around ever since, becoming a common sight on American roads and in trailer parks. Their design, however, has remained the same for all those years. This is why you might think that McCounaghey's Airstream is vintage when it's, in fact, a 2004 International CCD model.
14 What Does That Even Mean?
Vehicle manufacturers love acronyms, and so does Airstream. However, it's not immediately clear what CCD means in McConaughey's Airstream model. Turns out, these are the initials of Christopher C. Deam, the designer of the 2004 International model. The International is one of Airstream's most successful models to date, and it seems only right that they decided to commemorate the designer of the trailer that way.

When McConaughey first got his Airstream in 2004, it wasn't just a hobby for him - it was his home. McConaughey's love for portable accommodation started long before he got a hold of his Airstream. In the '90s, he had a GMC van, fitted with a bed instead of the back seats, a refrigerator, and a VCR. As cool as it might sound, it definitely wasn't spacious - and Matthew is not a small guy. All of McConaughey's vehicles are special to him - that's why they deserve special names. That GMC van? It was called Cosmo. The Ford F-150 Matthew uses to tow the Airstream is called Eagle, and the trailer itself is known as Canoe. According to Matthew himself, the name was inspired by his trip to the Squamish Nation reservation in Vancouver, where the locals gave him a canoe as a parting gift.

7 Scenic Parking Spot
Airstream trailers are made for the road and long journeys. Matthew's Airstream, however, mostly stays parked in one spot. But what a spot it is! The actor and his wife currently reside in Malibu, and the Canoe is parked in a trailer park close to their home, but even closer to one of the best surfing spots in the world. McConaughey loves his surfing, and we can see why he chose the Malibu Beach RV Park as the spot for his Airstream.
6 Custom Table
From the factory, all Airstreams are fitted inside with a picnic-style table and fixed chairs. This setup, however, takes up too much space - especially if you're a big guy like McConaughey. That's why for his Airstream he had a custom, more normal-looking table, and stools made by a craftsman in Louisiana. It's a more practical solution that adds a lot of charm to the interior, too.
5 Tight And Cozy Bedroom
You can't expect an RV bedroom to be big, but you can definitely expect it to be cozy and comfy. Matthew seems to agree - he lovingly nicknamed his Airstream bedroom the Honeycomb - because of the dome ceiling and the yellow-ish tones, it seems. With some nice sheets and a beautiful view out of the window, it might just be one of the best places on Earth to sleep.
4 Promotional Tour
McConaughey is not afraid to mix business and pleasure when it comes to his RV. To promote his 2005 movie Sahara, he toured the States in his Airstream, covered in huge Sahara posters. The tour included screenings of the film, autograph sessions, interviews and, of course, McConaughey simply enjoying life on the road in his beloved Airstream.
3 Additional Upgrades
McConaughey is very serious about his Airstream and living there for prolonged periods of time. Because of that, he made sure that he has all the comfort he needs. Over the years, he's made quite a few additional upgrades to his RV. It now features a barbecue, a satellite dish, additional book racks, and a custom banquette. Once again, form meets function.
2 New Standard For Movie Production
Matthew loves his RV so much that he decided to share this love with the crew of his 2008 movie Surfer, Dude. "Instead of putting the crew in hotels, we ended up renting a bunch of RVs and putting everyone in 14 trailers in the RV park in Malibu. It was a really great communal environment, like the circus," said McConaughey about his unusual approach.
1 The Growing Family
You might think that one custom Airstream would be enough for Matthew. You're wrong! McConaughey is so happy with his Airstream that he ordered two more. While the Canoe is 28 feet long, the two other ones will be 25 and 34. He is even considering expanding his collection into a whole fleet that would serve as a compound or a hotel.
