"One man's trash is another man's treasure." The concepts of thrifting, antiquing, and picking have existed for quite some time. In fact, they almost entirely rely on that old saying holding true. And hunting for such finds makes for quite an entertaining hobby.

This is why The American Pickers have their own show, and why that show has been so successful. Not much can compare to seeing a garage filled with rare, historical items. Even better, seeing the satisfaction of an extensive restoration, or a profitable flip.

Of course, when something gets treated like trash, the state its found in usually reflects it. But, this doesn't daunt the American Pickers, as they can see what beauty lays beneath the dust. Check out these 15 vintage cars discovered by the cast of The American Pickers that may look like trash but are actually real treasures.

It's equally exciting to find a piece of music history as it is finding beautiful, abandoned vintage cars. There's something incredibly special about cars from the 1930s. Back then, cars were still a new concept to most people, and individual or smaller teams of designers had the chance to pour their heart and soul into the bodywork of a vehicle. The results were fantastic machines like this. While it may look a bit shabby in the state it was found, a fresh coat of paint can easily bring those curves back to their original glory

These vehicles would become known as "Muscle Cars." While GM and Chrysler beat Ford to the punch with marketing their new muscle cars, Ford introduced the Fairlane GT as a worthy rival. Quite a score for the Pickers, even with the rust.

In the earliest days of production cars, there was a large gap in the market between Motorcycles and Automobiles. To fill the existing gap, many companies created small and cheap cars with motorcycle-sized engines. These were known as "Cyclecars," and they were pretty much as bare-bones as you could imagine. The 1960s were an amazing time for American cars. Designing a car was more of a handcrafted artwork than a computer-generated solution that happens to pass for design today. Cadillac understood this quite well in the 60s, coming out with some of the best looking and most luxurious cars any American could dream of buying. Naturally, the Pickers were all over this one, even if it was a bit rough, once they found it.

5 1937 Cord Convertible

There's something special about barn finds. A neglected vehicle just sitting in storage for decades seems sad, but it makes the moment they get their time to shine all the more satisfying. Such was the case with this Cord. Sitting in a garage for over 30 years took its toll on the paint, leather, and chrome trim, but was still a great looking car. The Pickers passed on buying it though, as the owner wouldn't sell it for a price they liked.

4 1958 BMW Isetta

More of a refrigerator than a car, the BMW Isetta is a classic among microcars. It's easy to see why such a car would be considered a classic, despite being not much bigger than its driver, the styling is 1950s aesthetics at its best. Despite being a deathtrap, and utterly impractical, the collector's value and cool factor of Isettas make this a great score for the Pickers.

No other American land yacht from the '50s inspires such an image more than a Chevy Bel Air does. While not in the best shape, this Bel-Air was still an awesome find.

Despite being a complete rust bucket, these early Ford Coupes spawned an entire genre of custom cars. These reliable Coupes were "souped-up" with bigger motors and a lowered suspension, with the resulting style becoming known as a Hot Rod. While Hot Rods can be all sorts of things today, a 1930s Ford Coupe can be rightfully be considered their origin, making it quite desirable (even if completely covered in rust).
