If the new Porsche Taycan is simply not fast enough for you, or if you demand more exclusivity than your regular old Maybach, Bentley or Rolls Royce sedan can muster, well, then fear no more! Christian Von Koenigsegg and his eponymous and eccentric hypercar company are coming to your rescue. Behold the 4-seat, almost-1700 hp Koenigsegg Gemera - a Swedish lightning bolt and “mega GT” that can light up your grand touring fantasies with more mind boggling numbers than an MIT astrophysicist.

Swedish Flourish

The Gemera is a hybrid, but it’s as far from a Prius or even a P1 as you can possibly get. It sports 2 large doors that open scissors-style as is the norm with all Koenigsegg models. Its gas-electric dual identity starts off with a what is a head-scratcher, a twin turbo 3 cylinder motor dubbed the "tiny friendly giant” by the automaker. And lest you think this is any ordinary 3-banger, you will be happy to hear that the 2.0L delivers a seismic and overacheiving 592 hp, courtesy of Koenigsegg's Freevalve system along with variable valve timing. The little camless engine is further augmented by 3 electric motors.

There are 2 of these electric mills powering the rear wheels, and another that sits upfront and is directly bolted to the gas engine’s crankshaft. All this pomp and circumstance delivers a gargantuan 1677 hp to propel the lucky driver and his/her 3 unsuspecting passengers from 0-62 mph in a stupefying 1.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 249 mph.

In further ominous news for the competition (even though there is none), we would be remiss not to mention the Gemera’s 800-volt/15 KWh battery that allows the car to travel up to 31 miles in purely electric mode. But, as they say, wait there’s more! You also get all-wheel-drive, all-wheel steering and torque vectoring to help put all that power to the pavement responsibly. There’s also a de rigueur Akrapovič titanium exhaust so you can be certain of Gemera’s auditory proclivity, and creature comforts including the latest in infotainment and safety technology.

Target Practice

They say a genius is someone who can shoot and hit a target no one else can even see. You’ve got to hand it to Koenigsegg - they saw a target and hit nothing but the bull’s eye with a swift arrow that’s called the Gemera.
