It’s an aging classic, but the 1983 feature film Christine still likely hits the list of most people's best car movies. Whether you’re a fan or not, arguably there’s an appeal in (spoiler alert) seeing a classic car hellbent on wreaking havoc all on its own.

Perhaps there is a certain eerie and haunting charm inherent in old cars, but certainly, this render capitalizes on the eeriness of the 1958 Plymouth Fury from the film with a devilish new makeover.

The render appears on SpeedKore01’s Instagram page including a movie poster under the name of ‘Hellafurious’ – SpeedKore is “Custom car builder, designer & manufacturer of carbon fiber parts”.

This render is in collaboration with Abimelecdesign, a digital artist also on Instagram, and reimagines the classic automotive baddie as a resurrected protagonist for a sequel to the original film.

In the original film, the car gets destroyed at the end, so this time the car gets a raft of upgrades including an awesome engine – under the hood is a ‘Hellephant’ crate engine.

As Stellantis puts it, the “Hellephant 426 Supercharged Mopar Crate HEMI® Engine delivers mammoth numbers: 1,000 horsepower and 950 lb-ft. of torque”, this would be a significant upgrade over the original 1958 Fury’s 300 hp. In any case, the original Christine may well have gotten a higher horsepower figure due to her supernatural powers, but here the exterior overhaul here also looks awesome.

According to the Instagram post, “The body (is) tinted gloss prepreg carbon fiber with a shaved engine bay in satin carbon. Under the vented hood is Mopar’s Hellephant with styling cues reminiscent of the first-generation HEMI. The interior maintains a factory aesthetic and features ample Alcántara and leather while the raked stance of the Fury sits on wide steelies”.

SpeedKore and Abimelec’s design is low, wide, and looks great with the glossy carbon fiber finish all over, while the iconic headlamps survive without futuristic-looking LED units which adds to the vintage look, matt-chrome fenders also look great.

1977’s The Car feature also features an evil automobile protagonist in the form of the Lincoln Continental Mark III-based car which goes on a murderous rampage in style.

One thing’s for sure: if an evil, sentient car movie were to get made today, the directors and scriptwriters could do worse than another of Mopar’s best hits – the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.

With its evil glowing eyes, the prodigious engine, and sticky tires, plus that hunkered-down, ready-to-pounce stance, the Demon would surely make an excellent baddie. For now, the new render of the Hellephant-powered Fury makes us want to rewatch the original film and appreciate the car’s awesome performance.
