Alfred Rios, owner of Drive Auto Collision in El Paso, Texas, wanted to do a special build based on the iconic 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. He wasn't particularly interested in a concours restoration, nor did he want to mar the clean line of Chevy's original pony car. Given his customization and fabrication know how, he set out to give the Camaro the restomod treatment grafting components of a 2016 Camaro ZL1 onto the '68. What you see above and below is the result. The Franken-Camaro!

What It Is

From the outside, the car seems to be a mildly worked over 1968 Camaro with subtle exterior and interior touches. But once you start looking closely, and certainly open up the hood, you begin to realize that Alfred's creation is something totally different. Alfred took the 550+ hp supercharged LSA motor, suspension, brakes and other bits from the ZL1 and put them on the '68 Camaro. The installation of all the components is top notch requiring extensive modifications to make it all fit and work right.

More Than Skin Deep

He also added a RideTech suspension system to get the stance just right, custom hinges and door handles from All American Billett, custom TFT Threeface wheels all wrapped in a Torch Red paint job from a C7 Corvette. The end result is truly impressive.

And Oh Yeah ...

But Alfred isn't just about cars. After showing some of his creations at past SEMA events, he struck up a partnership with the trade school at Southwest University which serves students aged 21-36 in the automotive business. Alfred welcomed the opportunity to show these students the ropes, and they volunteered on aspects of the build. Sounds like a great project to me! Buckle up.
