The Datsun 240Z is indeed a special model that many drivers have come to love. This is why the 240Z is usually a hot item when it is up for sale on an auction. This particularly 1971 Datsun could be hotter thanks to the fact it has some celebrity-related history.—it was used in a Nissan commercial ad starring brand ambassador and actress Brie Larson.

An Icon That Brought Thrill In The Driver's Seat

The ad "The New Nissan" started with Larson – who played Captain Marvel in the 2019 movie of the same name – driving behind the wheel of a Nissan 240Z on a hot desert highway. She went on to introduce Nissan's all-new lineup that promises to put "thrill in the driver’s seat." Now this particular 240Z is looking for a new owner at Bring A Trailer.

The current owner bought this 240Z also on Bring A Trailer in October 2020. The car was repainted in Safari Gold by the previous owner. When it was time to change hands, the new owner found out that the several things are needed to be done to get this classic car in excellent condition.

Engine Reworked For Smooth Operations

For instance, the 240Z's 2.4-liter L24 inline-six engine was rebuilt with new bearings, seals, piston rings, gaskets and hoses as well as ignition components, water pumps and oil pumps. The carburetor and fuel pump were also rebuilt, the drivetrain fluids were replaced, and exhaust components, a dashboard cover, weatherstripping and taillamps were installed. The brake fluid was also flushed.

This 1971 Datsun 240Z rides on 14″ steel wheels (with Datsun hubcaps) shod with Starfire RS-C 2.0 tires. It comes with wood-rimmed steering wheel, a 160-mph speedometer and an 8,000-rpm tachometer. As per the five-digit odometer, this car has been driven for 80,000 miles, with the current owner adding 200 miles to the count.

More Rework Done For Nissan Commercial Ad

In preparation for the April 2021 commercial ad with Larson, Nissan replaced the weatherstripping, media blasted the seat frames, repainted the interior in black and installed foam inserts, straps, black vinyl upholstery, and a dashboard cap. Nissan also repaired ground issues, performed a tune-up and adjusted the engine timing. The seller, meanwhile, seller refreshed the exterior hardware and zinc-plated the fuel door and door, hatch and hood latches.

The reworked 2.4-liter L24 inline-six engine of this 240Z sends power to the wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. The engine stamping "L24050787" matches the number listed on the chassis data plate. This 240Z is being offered on Bring A Trailer with promotional items from Nissan, advertising photographs, digital files with ad outtakes as well as a clean California title (in seller’s name).
