The global coronavirus pandemic may have shut down the mainstream automotive industry, but enthusiasts have discovered that empty roads provide an excellent opportunity to drive fast and meet up with similarly passionate friends in their community. The result has been a rash of speeding tickets here in the United States, which might be expected. But while some events, such as the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance got canceled, others have continued to attract big crowds here and around the globe. Case in point now comes in the form of a new YouTube video from the automotive channel Gumbal, which features some of the most radical JDM tuners imaginable including a pristine car identified as a 1995 Mazda RX-7 FD3S Single Turbo Efini RE Amemiya.

No Clues, But Sounds Great

Of course, the fact that this is a Mazda RX-7 is easy to spot, despite the radical exterior modifications that include a huge front lip, hood vents, side intakes, a rear diffuser, and a massive exhaust tip at the rear. The video contains absolutely zero information to provide viewers with any true proof that this car is the real-life version of a JDM sports car modded by RE Amemiya and made most famous, perhaps, by appearances in the Gran Turismo racing video game series.

Under The Hood

RE Amemiya first got into the RX-7 arena by entering one in the GT300 class of the Super GT series in 1995, so perhaps it's fitting that this car could be a 1995 model year. Regardless, under the hood looks to be a single-turbo conversion (rather than the sequential turbo setup that made the RX-7's Wankel engine so potent).

Listening to the engine idle, rev, and pop certainly gives a hint as to why fans of the rotary engine stick to their guns despite so many known flaws. But the supporting cast of this clip includes some other legitimate stars in their own right, from an Mk4 Supra to plenty of Nissan Skylines, Subaru Imprezas, and more.
