Movies have always showcased cars in really cool and unique ways. They even tend to stay with audiences well after the credits roll. Chances are that if asked, most people have a favorite car they remember from a movie. It can be a really awesome ride, like Steve McQueen's Mustang GT flying down San Francisco streets in Bullitt. On the other hand, it can be something silly and over the top, like the Shaggin' Wagon Dumb Lloyd and Harry drive in Dumb and Dumber. Whatever the grounds are for the appeal, cars have a natural way of standing out in people's memories.

For many, a love for that particular car doesn't just go away overnight. A car like that not only sticks with them but inhabits their very dreams. They decide one day they have to get a hold of one. In reality, though, there's no way they can get the actual car the filmmakers used. So they decide to make one. It's an ambitious undertaking, but their love for that car is enormous. Driven by a need to have the car of their dreams, they do everything they can to recreate the car they've watched a hundred times in their favorite movie. Here are famous movie cars that people couldn't help but recreate in real-life.

20 Ecto-1 Car From Ghostbusters

via Laughing Squid

While many might consider it a sin to change a 1959 Cadillac at all, the Ecto-1 makes a convincing case to the contrary. Made famous from the popular Ghostbusters films, it serves as a vehicle for the team to cruise around New York City in.

A Ghostbusters fan named Sean Bishop decided loved the Ecto-1 so much, he decided to make his own replica. Based in Pasadena, California, according to Laughing Squid, he even happens to be a voice actor.

From the Ghostbusters logo and paint job to the roof rack and all its tubing, this Ecto-1 is a near-perfect replica of the movie's car.

19 1989 Batmobile

via YouTube user Barcroft Cars

No one watched the original Batman movie without wanting to take a ride in the Batmobile. They'd be lying if they said otherwise. While the dream of riding in a Batmobile doesn't come true for most, one fan got to make his a reality.

Barcroft Cars reported on their YouTube channel that Australian native Zac Mihajlovic made this Batmobile by hand. Even more impressive is the fact that it's street legal, which means he can show it off wherever he goes. "I can take it down and get groceries if I wanted to," the owner admits. He might even feel inspired to start fighting crime as well.

18 Jurassic Park Jeep

via AutoInfluence

Considering there's a new Jurassic Park out in theaters, it's appropriate a Jeep from the popular franchise made the list. Primarily an homage to the first film, this rugged jeep looks just like the ones the characters used to tour the park of dinosaurs.

According to Auto Influence, the exact models used were 1992 Jeep Wrangler Saharas. The owner of this replica did justice to the movie by giving it a paint job, soft top and the familiar logos from the park itself.

A jeep like this should remain in top notch condition considering it never has to flee from dinosaurs.

17 Dukes of Hazzard “General Lee”

via dukes collector blogspot

Made famous in both The Dukes of Hazzard TV shows and movies, The “General Lee” is the Dodge muscle car Bo and Luke drive. Often seen driving through a rural landscape away from law enforcement, it's a fast ride every viewer wanted. For those lucky enough to attend the grand opening of a Cooter's museum in Sperryville, Virginia, there was a replica of the car for visitors to see.

According to the blog Dukes Collector, the owner went through plenty of effort to make the car look just like the one from the famous franchise. Hopefully, he didn't have to steal any parts to get the replica up to snuff in case the cops are after him and his car.

16 Herbie, The Love Bug

via NBC News

The story surrounding this Herbie Beetle is one many can relate to.

Cars often become personal projects that family members get to work on together. In the end, not only do they get an awesome car out of it, but a bonding experience.

Dave Barrett and his son worked on the Beetle to make it look like the famous “Herbie the Love Bug" from the movies. "We decided it would be great fun to have our own Herbie," said Barrett in an interview with NBC News. "We had a good time as father and son fixing some things here and truly making him our own."

15 Optimus Prime from Transformers

via Movinout

Anyone that grew up in the '80s will appreciate this next replica, even if it's not exactly based on the one from the cartoons. This fan took his inspiration more from the live action Transformers movies, turning a Peterbilt into Optimus Prime.

According to America's Footprints, Joe Fiduccia is the first person to make a life-size Optimus Prime. Although it doesn't transformer into an Autobot, it does bear the familiar (and fiery) paint job seen throughout the movies. He even admits planning out his project back in 2015. Though at first, it took some convincing to bring his wife and son around to the idea.

14 Mad Max Interceptor Car

via YouTube user Barcroft Cars

Those who saw the Mad Max movies with Mel Gibson are quick to remember that awesome car he drove. Called the Interceptor, one Michigan native spent his money and time on recreating this iconic vehicle.

According to Barcroft Cars' YouTube Channel, it cost Dale Walter $125,000 to make the car look just like it did in the movies.

Apparently, when Walter first watched the Mad Max film in a movie theater, he confessed to his friend that he would own that car someday. Although he didn't get the exact one, he did manage to turn a 1972 Australian Ford Falcon into a replica.

13 Death Proof Nova

via carthrottle.com

Back in 2007, Quintin Tarantino released the movie Death Proof as an homage to the old grindhouse exploitation films he used to watch. The film was about a Stuntman and his car. It's not very often that movies actually center around an automobile.

As shown on YouTube user Gannhotrod1's channel, someone created a Death Proof Nova replica. Some of the distinguishing characteristics include the black paint and a duck hood ornament.

Though the most recognizable attribute is the white skull and lightning bolts painted across the hood of the car. With a replica like this, the owner could get away with saying he has the real deal.

12 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse From The Fast And The Furious

via YouTube user BlackWater Motorwerks

Taken from a more recent film franchise, this Mitsubishi Eclipse was famous for its appearance in The Fast and the Furious movies. Driven by Paul Walker, this car was what helped his character Brian O'Conner prepare for the street race. It's a car so cool that someone inevitably had to replicate it.

According to BlackWater Motorwerks on YouTube, the car is only for show though. The green neon color and blue design is the most distinguishing part of it. Even though the car in the movie got destroyed, it still lives on in replicas like this one.

11 Speed Racer Mach 5

via Carlyle Motors LLC

Although Speed Racer was originally an animated show, the Wachowskis did go on to make a live-action film in 2008. That's when fans of the show got to see the Mach 5 in all its glory become an actual car in real life.

According to Carlyle Motors, this particular Mach 5 was one of five replicas made. Originally it was a 1979 Corvette that got the Speed Racer treatment.

This one also went up for sale though there's no price tag listed. Bearing the signature decals and forked hood that the show made popular, it's going to give fans goosebumps.

10 Dumb and Dumber Shaggin’ Wagon

via The Kansas City Star

This car may not be as cool as some others. Though some will laugh at the fact someone went to such great lengths to make it in the first place. The Dumb and Dumber Shaggin' Wagon is also a fan favorite movie vehicle that got the real-life treatment.

According to The Kansas City Star, Joe Pace of Kansas City built the replica himself and managed to sell it. Though the price tag is sure to raise some eyebrows. In the end, Pace got $20,000 for his Shaggin' Wagon. He even admitted to missing it. It's hard to miss it though after pocketing that much dough. Now how much did he spend making it?

9 Tow Mater From Cars

via Flickr

Even animated movies have cars people want to make into replicas. Here's one that most will recognize while also scratching their heads. It's Tow Mater from the popular Pixar trilogy Cars. It even looks like the truck still tows even. Though one would have to remove the eyes across the windshield if they wanted to actually drive it. As far as replicas go, it's accurate to the on-screen character. The only area that could've been better is the paint job. It looks someone rushed through it with some spray paint. Being that Cars is a popular movie franchise, it was only a matter of time before one of its characters got its own replica.

8 Bluesmobile From The Blues Brothers

via Arizona Blues Company

The Bluesmobile is a popular vehicle from The Blues Brothers movies. It's a police squad car that has a loudspeaker rigged up on its roof. It's a hilarious vehicle to look at, so it makes sense someone would want to make one of their own.

Customers interested in renting out this replica Bluesmobile can give the Arizona Blues Company a call. Not only do customers get the Bluesmobile, but also two actors playing The Blues Brothers as well.

Everything about the replica looks legit too, except for the license plate, which reads as "BDR 529" in the movies.

7 DeLorean Time Machine From Back To The Future

via Tested

While most of the cars on this list don't necessarily have to be the same models used in their respective films, this replica absolutely must. Most will recognize it immediately as the DeLorean from the Back to the Future movies.

What makes the DeLorean special is that the movies made the car much more popular than it already was. Now, since the movies are so iconic, people recognize it as the time machine Doc Brown makes in the movies. The builder even added specific details only fans will know from the movies like the plutonium reactor and flux capacitor.

6 Greased Lightning Car From Grease

via Flickr

The movie Grease is a popular musical that takes place in the '50s. It features some iconic rides throughout, especially in one song called "Greased Lightning." That sequence features the characters fixing up the car to make it into the perfect racing vehicle. Pictured here is the final result of what they build. Although it's not the actual car used in filming, it looks just like the one used towards the end of the movie.

According to Flickr, it's a 1948 Ford that featured at Buster Lang's All-American Classic, Custom, Hot Rod & Bike Show.

Fans at the show were lucky enough to see this cool rid up close and personal.

5 Zombieland Hummer

via Car-Image.com

It's hard to believe the movie Zombieland is almost 10 years old already. Fans will remember the cool ride the four main characters rolled around in across the apocalyptic wasteland: a yellow Hummer H2. As shown here, the Hummer is a simple yet accurate replica of the one seen in the movie.

Woody Harrelson's character at one point in the film, as per IMDB, paints a number "3" on the side. His character alludes to Dale Earnhardt, who drove a No. 3 car.

4 James Bond’s Lotus Esprit From The Spy Who Loved Me

via Pinterest

The James Bond movies have lots of vehicles viewers fall in love with. Although the Aston Martin from Goldfinger is arguably the most popular car Bond drives, few can forget the Lotus Esprit. In the movieThe Spy Who Loved Me, Bond drives a car that transforms into an underwater submarine.

According to The State, James Strickland owns not one, but two replicas of the Lotus Esprit car. One of them can even serve as a boat.

Although many probably envy Strickland, he's a car collector worthy of such replicas. According to the outlet, he owns five Jaguars among others in his collection.

3 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

via YouTube user Barcroft Cars

This Chitty Chitty Bang Bang replica might be even better than the one they actually filmed with. Not only is it a functioning car on the street, it actually has wings that fold in and out. It also looks exactly like the one in the movie. According to Barcroft Cars on their YouTube channel, Tony Garofalo is the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang fan who went to great lengths in making his dream car.

His uncle had even worked for the film studio at the time of its release, which allowed Garofalo to attend the premiere. It's easy to see why the film left such an impression at a young age.

2 Frankenstein Corvette From Death Race 2000

via The News Wheel

In a film that features tons of vehicles, it's hard to pick a favorite from Death Race 2000. Though Frankenstein's Corvette pictured here is hard to top. It looks like a hot wheels car but bigger.

Although the movie car is a C3 Corvette, the replica owner, Dean Jefferies, used something different. With a VW providing the base, he used an engine from a Chevy Corvair.

Unfortunately, the visible engine resting on the back is not the actual motor. The owner even tried to sell it, according to The News Wheel, in an attempt to get $20K-$25K.

1 Ricky Bobby’s No. 26 Wonder Bread Car From Talladega Nights

via therpf.com

In the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Will Ferrell drives a Wonder Bread F1 car. Although this replica isn't the same car or body from the movie, it's a decent copy. The real car from the movie, however, has made some appearances on actual tracks, according to Jalopnik.

This one seen here probably goes as far as the grocery store and back. Still, it makes one wonder how much trouble the owner went through to make it as close of a replica as the one seen on the silver screen. In all likelihood, it's at least able to shake n' bake.
