There is no question that General Motors has been able to help lead their car manufacturers to release some of the best cars ever. For a number of decades, their manufacturers have completely changed the entire dynamic of the automobile world with their constant releases of spectacular models. However, even with this being the case, it is essentially to recognize the fact that they have also created some truly horrible ones as well. In fact, some of these vehicles can even be deemed as the worst of all-time. As a result of this, GM has definitely had some negative impacts from their manufacturers as well.

With all that has been stated thus far, in this article, we will be looking at 20 GM cars that we still can’t figure out the purpose of. There is no question that GM cars have been truly amazing over the years, but we cannot forget to examine their truly abysmal ones as well. It is important to note that we will be looking at many different type of vehicles that come from a variety of different decades. At the end of the day, we must always still recognize the fact that GM has been a spectacular car corporation and has given us amazing vehicles from its brands. Nonetheless, let’s look at the 20 GM cars that we still can’t figure out the purpose of!

20 2005 Chevy Uplander

via autoevolution.com

The 2005 Chevy Uplander was a complete and utter disaster and it is shocking that Chevy ever released it.

When it first came out, it was expected to turn into one of the best family cars on the market.

However, when seeing how many problems it had, this was not the case at all. It is truly shocking to see that this model was ever released and we will never understand what GM was thinking with it, especially going up against the wildly popular Dodge Caravan. For a family car to be successful, it needs to be reliable and provide a lot of safety to its passengers. This obviously would not be the case with this.

19 1982 Cadillac Cimarron

The 1982 Cadillac Cimarron was supposed to be a top notch model and due to this clear fact, it had a lot of hype when it was first released. Cadillac of course has been known for its rich history of luxury cars, so many believed that this one would end up being a part of it. However, this model turned out to be an absolute lemon and honestly, one of the worst vehicles to have ever been released. There is no excuse for the magnitude of structural issues that this vehicle had and due to this clear fact, it is hated throughout the automobile world to this day.

18 1979 Pontiac Phoenix

via cargurus.com

The 1979 Pontiac Phoenix was definitely another vehicle that should have turned out well, especially when seeing how many people were interested in buying it.

However, instead of becoming a top notch vehicle for generations to come, it now is forgotten and always will be.

There is no question that Pontiac made a major mistake when it came to this model and it will forever receive criticism because of it. GM definitely was impacted negatively as a corporation for allowing this one to be released, as it is now one of the worsts of all-time.

17 2008 Saturn Vue

via momentcar.com

The 2008 Saturn Vue was supposed to be a very reliable family car that would have provided an abundance of safety to all of its passengers. However, this model would actually turn out to be one of the worst ones to ever come from the now defunct car manufacturer at the end of the day. There is no question that this model is one that GM definitely should have never allowed their manufacturer to make. This model was a serious lemon and hurt Saturn’s sales immensely. Some even consider it to be one of the main reasons why it would end up ending.

16 1997 Chevy Malibu

via zombdrive.com

The 1997 Chevy Malibu is one of the weakest cars when it comes to its overall structure to have ever been released.

This vehicle was also viewed as one that was supposed to have an abundance of durability, but that obviously would not end up being the case as the build quality made it prone to need repairs.

There is no question that this model could have truly been something special had Chevy actually spent more time correcting the clear errors that it possessed. However, instead of this being the case, it is now one of the biggest lemons of all-time and is truly disliked.

15 2001 Pontiac Aztek

via autoevolution.com

The 2001 Pontiac Aztek was supposed to be a top notch family car that would end up being very reliable and would have provided a lot of safety to everyone in it. However, this would sadly not be the case when seeing how many significant problems that it would end up possessing. This car is definitely remembered for having one of the worst engines in the history of the automobile world, so that definitely hurts its overall value. However, it also had an inexcusable interior that would essentially break down on its own, even if its owner handled it with care.

14 1982 Chevy Citation

The 1982 Chevy Citation was a model that the car manufacturer believed would end up being a top notch model. However, it actually would soon turn out to be one of the worst models to have ever been released by the car manufacturer. Clearly that is a huge turn of events for them. The primary issue with this vehicle was that it simply was built far too weakly and it would not be able to last long at all because of it. When seeing how this vehicle would essentially break down just a few years after its time on the primary market, buyers were definitely not pleased.

13 2010 GMC Terrain

via conceptcarz.com

The 2010 GMC Terrain is easily one of the worst models to have ever come from GMC and that is definitely disappointing when seeing that it had a plethora of potential when it was first released.

This seemed to be the perfect family vehicle, but essentially became the complete opposite.

When seeing how GMC has one of the best histories in the entire automobile world, it is shocking that they released a model as horrible as this one. However, the problem with it was that it simply wasn't targeted to the right audience. Most GMC customers like their bigger offerings, and this fell flat.

12 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass

via youtube.com

The 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass may be a very nice looking vehicle, but it can go down as one of the worst to have ever come from the car manufacturer. This is largely because of the fact that it was clearly produced far too quickly in hopes that it would perform well against the competition. This model could have been a true collector’s item if the company actually spent more time fixing the clear flaws that it possessed. Instead, because of their major errors, this is now a model that is easily one of the worst ever and a huge blemish on the history of GM. Luckily the future Cutlass models made some improvements.

11 2011 Chevy Aveo

via gm.com

The 2011 Chevy Aveo was a massive mistake by the company and should have never been released at the end of the day. This is largely because of the fact that this model had far too many problems with its transmission and engine, thus it gave it a short life cycle. One has to wonder why GM gave Chevy the green light to release this model because it truly was a horrible one. The main reason why there was so much desperation to release this one so quickly was that the competition was obviously intense at the time. However, it was a gamble that failed miserably.

10 1981 Oldsmobile Omega

via curbsideclassic.com

The 1981 Oldsmobile Omega could have been a great family vehicle that could have actually turned out to be one of the bests from the car manufacturer. Instead, this vehicle ended up being prone to having major issues with its interior and it would hurt its value a lot.

There definitely needed to be far more checks when it came to the delivery of this vehicle.

Had the car manufacturer actually noticed that this vehicle essentially would break itself down on its own, they could have made it far stronger. However, this was not the case and now it is one of the worsts.

9 2003 Saturn Ion

via bestcarmag.com

The 2003 Saturn Ion is easily one of the most boring vehicles of all-time and it truly could have been better if they actually gave it a unique look. However, this would be the first major strike from the car manufacturer and it would only get far worse as time would continue to pass. This vehicle was put together in Saturn's later stages, and it shows they were cutting corners. At the end of the day, there is no question that GM probably should have never allowed the release of these vehicles because they were just bland and poorly built.

8 1983 Chevy Chevette

via blogspot.com

The 1983 Chevy Chevette is another vehicle that definitely could have actually been a good one. However, Chevy definitely did not work on making this vehicle a strong one enough and as a result of this, it virtually possessed absolutely no durability whatsoever. Today, the release of this Chevette is now widely regarded to be one of the worst vehicles of all-time and it is extremely easy to understand why. GM definitely should have not allowed Chevy to release this model. As a result of this not occurring, this vehicle will forever haunt the legacy of Chevy immensely.

7 1987 Pontiac Le Mans

via momentcar.com

The 1987 Pontiac Le Mans truly had the potential to be something special, but due to the fact that it simply was built far too weakly, it resulted in it becoming one of the worsts. In fact, this vehicle is easily the worst in the history of the car manufacturer and one they wish they could forget.

However, this two-door boat can now be used as an example of how not to build a car.

It is truly challenging to figure out why GM thought it was a wise idea for them to allow the release of these vehicles, as they are complete lemons now.

6 1971 Chevy Vega

via barnfinds.com

The 1971 Chevy Vega is a model that is truly despised around the automobile world even to this day. This is largely because of the fact that it is widely considered to be one of the most unsafe vehicles to have ever been released all-time. This definitely would go on to hurt its value. What is truly disappointing about these models is that they also have one of the coolest designs. However, no one will ever remember it for that now because of how many problems it would give to its drivers over the years. Overall, this was a complete and utter disaster.

5 2008 GMC Acadia

via automiddleeast.com

The 2008 GMC Acadia definitely attracted a large audience when it was first released because of the fact that it was supposed to end up being a fantastic family car. The SUV definitely was built for a large amount of people in theory, but it did not provide the necessities that they all need. This vehicle was incredibly unsafe for its passengers because it could essentially break down at anytime because of its faulty engine. It also was very weak structurally so it would need constant repairs and would never seem to go back to being 100% after them as well.

4 1980 Buick Skylark

via momentcar.com

The 1980 Buick Skylark is a complete and utter lemon that easily is still considered to be one of the worst models of all-time. In fact, this model was so astronomically atrocious that it will never lose this title. This, of course, definitely hurt Buick’s overall reputation in the automobile world. Although this vehicle definitely had a very cool design to it, everything else about was horrible and made it a complete lemon. At the end of the day, this vehicle definitely looks bad for GM because it is hard to understand why they would even green light it. It was that bad of a car.

3 2009 Hummer H2 SUT

via carid.com

The 2009 Hummer H2 SUT was such a bad vehicle that many consider it to be the primary reason as to why the car manufacturer lost a lot of its sales. This would of course then lead to it completing ending their car manufacturer. It is easy to understand why when seeing how bad this vehicle was. The primary issue that would come from these vehicles was that it simply was the biggest waste of space ever. For such a large pickup, it essentially would never be able to be a solid work truck and that hurt its value immensely. With its astronomically small trunk, this makes a lot of sense.

2 1976 Cadillac Mirage

The 1976 Cadillac Mirage is one of the strangest cars to have ever been released. This would have been excusable however if it actually turned out to be a solid car. Instead, this vehicle is now widely regarded as being one of the worst vehicles to have ever been released. This vehicle is strangely considered a pickup, but it has absolutely no power to ever get the job done. It is not surprising that this vehicle would not have many more releases after this one because of how bad it was. At the end of the day, GM really had no idea what they were doing allowing this one to be released.

1 Chevy SSR

The Chevy SSR was the biggest waste of a project of all-time and both Chevy and GM should be ashamed of themselves. This “pickup” was easily one of the weakest cars structurally of all-time and also had a horrible look to it. However, this would only be the beginning of the issues. When seeing how this vehicle essentially would break down at every turn, it is quite simple to see why it is considered to be one of the worst car series of all-time. Thankfully the automobile world will never have to see one of these again, but the damage has been done enough on Chevy’s history.
