While everyone is busy practicing social distancing, we just received word that Porsche is introducing a couple of exciting packages for the new, King of the Hill 992 generation 911 Turbo S. We are still waiting for the Stuttgart company to release more track-focused (GT3, GT2RS) versions of this latest generation of its legendary sports car sometime in the next couple of years, but in the meantime enthusiasts can sample these delightful packages that add much to the character of the new 911 line up.

Light is Right

As if the 640-hp 911 Turbo S was not sufficiently quick enough, Porsche is trying that old trick of adding lightness to gain more performance. The Lightweight Package puts the car on a 66-lb diet by deleting the rear seat, adding thinner glass, lightweight front sports seats, and less sound deadening material. But that’s not all. The package also adds PASM Sport Suspension and Sport Exhaust System to create a truly track-focused machine that will transform the already-rapid Turbo S into a real apex hunter. The Lightweight Package is only available on the hardtop versions of the car.

Looks That Kill

The other trick up Porsche’s sleeve is not quite as exciting, at least if your main focus is on performance and not looks. The new Sport Package consists mostly of aesthetic upgrades, with new taillights, wheels, and lot of of black trim. A deployable rear wing, new front fascia, tail lights and dark silver wheels complete the looks. The Sport Package will be offered in both the convertible and the coupe versions of the car, except that the coupe version will also get a carbon fiber roof. Porsche hasn’t announced pricing on the new packages, but judging by past Porsche special packages, it will not be cheap. Not even close.

If you are a dyed in the wool Porsche fan, and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the next GT3 or GT2RS as your entree, you will be pleased to nosh on these appetizing new packages. As for the rest of us, we can always dream, can't we?
