While people are waiting for the Nissan GT-R to get a major update as a new generation, the Japanese carmaker decided it is not time yet. Instead, Nissan unveiled the new Japan-market 2022 GT-R sports car with two new T-spec special editions. U.S. customers don't need to worry though, since a limited number of GT-R T-spec editions are on their way this winter at $138,490 MSRP.

The Nissan GT-R remains unchanged since its unveiling in 2007. Now heading into its 14th model year, the GT-R still kills supercars and Nissan has managed to keep it fresh by releasing various special and limited edition Godzilla models. The T-spec edition is the latest of these models and many are hoping that it's the last hurrah for the current GT-R, with a new generation coming soon.

According to Nissan, the T-spec name represents its philosophy of leading and shaping the "times," with the GT-R serving as a "trend" maker and a "traction" master. As such, the North American 2021 GT-R T-spec is available in two iconic body colors and comes laden with a range of upgraded features.

Slotted just above the GT-R Premium grade, the GT-R T-spec features a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, gold-painted RAYS forged aluminum-alloy wheels, body-colored door mirrors, black hood ducts, and T-spec badging. It borrows the wide front fenders from the previous Track Edition as well as the carbon ceramic brakes (with brake air guides) of the fearsome GT-R Nismo.

Two exclusive colors are available for the T-spec: Midnight Purple and Millennium Jade. Taking inspiration from the color-shifting aurora borealis, Midnight Purple is the modern iteration of the Midnight Purple III finish of the R34 V-Spec (132 units) and the 2014 special edition Midnight Opal R35 GT-R (100 units).

Radiating an aura that blends sophistication and powerful presence, Millennium Jade was previously offered on the R34 GT-R V-Spec II Nür. Only 156 units of the total 716 built V-Spec II Nür come wrapped in this shade. The GT-R T-spec is the first US-bound model to offer this color.

Inside, the 2021 GT-R T-spec comes wrapped in special "Mori Green" color. Additionally, it's complemented by premium semi-aniline leather-appointed seating (with pearl suede accents), quilted Alcantara headliner and T-spec badging.

As for power, the GT-R T-spec still features the same twin-turbo VR38DETT 3.8-liter V6 engine providing 565 hp of max output and 467 lb-ft of peak torque. Power is sent to the GT-R's independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system via an advanced paddle-shifted sequential 6-speed dual clutch transmission.
