When it's already good, just make it better. Just as speculations about a new ZR2 version of the Silverado 1500 heats up, Chevrolet confirms a number of new features for the 2021 iteration of the truck. These include an available Multi-Flex Tailgate, improved trailering capacity as well as enhanced technologies. New packages and colors are confirmed too!

Multi-Flex Tailgate With Six Functions

While we're waiting for the ZRX model, Chevrolet is providing the Silverado 1500 with the new Multi-Flex Tailgate that offers six unique functions for easier bed access and enhanced loading. It can also serve as a standing workstation. Able to carry up to 375 pounds, users can activate the Multi-Flex Tailgate functions thru a key fob.

Users can also use the buttons on the tailgate: for the full gate and for the second-tier loading and storage options. This new option will be available on all Silverado 1500 models starting early 2021.

Improved Trailering Capability

Chevrolet have increased the trailering capacity for its 2.7L Turbo models. The Crew Cab Short Box 2WD now boasts of a max towing capacity of 9,300 pounds (an increase of 2,500 pounds), while the Regular Cab Long Box offers a tow rating of 9,600 pounds. Overall, Silverado’s overall 2WD max payload is up by 2,280 pounds.

Meanwhile, almost all 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel models now offer an extra 1,900 pounds of trailering capacity, with 2WD models boasting of a max capacity of 9,500 pounds. Making these 2021 3.0L Duramax models more value-tempting is the fact that their MSRPs have been cut by $1,500.

New Trailering Technologies

For 2021, the Silverado 1500 will gain new trailering technologies such as Trailer Length Indicator, Jack-Knife Alert, and Cargo Bed View enhancement. Further enhanced for the new models is the Rear Trailer View tech that now comes with assisting guidelines and a Trailer-Angle Indicator.

Three New Packages And Three New Exterior Colors

The Silverado 1500 will start the 2021 model year with three new available packages (All Star Edition Plus, Texas Edition Plus and LTZ Premium Texas Edition) and three new exterior colors (Mosaic Black Metallic, Oxford Brown Metallic and Cherry Red Tintcoat). The new Silverado 1500 will be produced starting this month, and will be sold at dealership in Fall 2020.
