The Turkish Grand Prix is set to replace the Canadian Grand Prix in June of the current season after weeks of deliberation concluded this morning. Earlier this month F1 and Canada Grand Prix organizers had trouble reaching an agreement regarding the Coronavirus restrictions and how they apply to F1 staff and drivers.

F1 wanted to forego the two week quarantine, while the Grand Prix organizers were uncomfortable with hosting spectators and couldn't account for the hundreds of volunteers that help during a race weekend. F1 also wanted $6 million to compensate for the loss of revenue from ticket buyers.

Ultimately, the Grand Prix organizers decided against hosting the event this season for the second year in a row, though there is a silver lining. F1 was able to secure the Canadian Grand Prix contract for a further two years past its original year end date, and is now set to run through 2031.

Turkey concluded its first Grand Prix since 2011 last season with a Lewis Hamilton victory, wrapping up the championship and equaling Michael Schumacher's all time record of seven world titles.

The Turkish Grand Prix is held at the Intercity Istanbul Park in Tuzla. It's a 3.3 mile circuit with 14 corners, where last season Lando Norris claimed the fastest lap with a 1:36.8. It's set to replace the Canadian Grand Prix, which was scheduled for the weekend of June 11-13.
