Ford has just postponed the unveiling of the new 2021 Ford Bronco due to the coronavirus outbreak. For the past few months, we have seen the Bronco prowling with camouflage. There was the rally-prepped Bronco R Prototype that took part in the Baja 1000, but that was just half the deal. But thanks to The Raptor Connection, the production version of the 2021 Bronco has been revealed through Instagram.

Teased With The Bronco R Prototype

Ford has been teasing us with the Bronco. Its greatest teaser so far was the Bronco R Prototype. A tribute to the original Bronco that emerged victorious in the 1969 edition of the Baja 1000, the Bronco R Prototype was meant to replicate the feat in the 2019 race.

Sadly for Ford, the Bronco R Prototype didn’t even finish the 2019 Baja 1000. Competing in the Class 2 of the 800-mile event, the Bronco R Prototype was made out of Ford Performance parts and a number of aftermarket components. Ford Performance’s products held up, but the aftermarket parts spelled doom for the Bronco R Prototype.

The Bronco R Prototype is underpinned by a version of the new T6 chassis that will underpin the 2021 Ford Bronco. Both vehicles are expected to share the same basic EcoBoost engine. Looking at the leaked Bronco image, it does have some similarities (like their boxy appearance) with the Bronco R Prototype; it’s only that the latter looks rugged and high almighty.

Boxy Yet Modern

Nonetheless, the 2021 Ford Bronco (as leaked) is a gentler, more subtle version of the Bronco R Prototype. Its boxy, squared-off proportions are highlighted by wide fender flares, beadlock-capable wheels, off-road tires, as well as a swinging rear tailgate. The styling and the lines of the Bronco also looks similar to that of the Rivian R1S electric SUV.

As for its powerplant, Ford has yet to disclose the engine options for the 2021 Bronco. However, it is widely expected that it will feature a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder as standard. A twin-turbo 2.7-liter V-6 mill may be offered.

Reveal Postponed

Ford was supposed to reveal the Bronco on March 18, 2020. But no thanks to the Coronavirus outbreak, the carmaker had to postpone the event. Ford, however, assured the public that it will reschedule the big reveal as soon as possible. For now, let’s be content that its true image has been leaked.
