The Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat Redeye is indeed a potent muscle car. But let it be known that it's now the most powerful stock muscle car, since that crown belongs to the SRT Challenger Super Stock.
Hennessey Performance Engineering, however, is offering a tuning package that could change the story of the Hellcat engine's output to around 1,000 hp. Number-wise, that's enough to beat an SRT Challenger Super Stock on a drag race. Will the outcome be the same in a street race in the real world?
1,000-HP Non-Stock Vs Super Stock
Indeed, the Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock can be considered the most powerful and quickest muscle car in stock form. But when faced with Hennessey's very own SRT Challenger Hellcat Redeye tuned to more than 1,000 hp, the Challenger SRT Super Stock becomes a sad story once the race stops at the finish line.
In each of the two passes held at the Penzoil Proving Grounds, the HPE1000 Hellcat Redeye quickly took off the starting line. As quick as its start is the widening of the gap between the HPE1000 Hellcat Redeye and the Challenger SRT Super Stock. At the end of the two runs, the HPE1000 Hellcat Redeye was well ahead of the Challenger SRT Super Stock.
Letting Numbers Speak For Themselves
If left alone without any modifications, the SRT Challenger Hellcat Redeye offers 797 hp of max output and 707 lb-ft of peak torque from its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI high-output V8 engine. With power numbers in supercar territory, the SRT Challenger Hellcat Redeye ca sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and complete a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds.
While the Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock has the same engine as the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, it has been recalibrated to offer 807 hp of max output. Thanks to performance-tuned asymmetrical limited-slip differential with a final drive ratio of 3.09, high-performance suspension, and 18-inch drag radials, the Challenger SRT Super Stock can complete the sprint in 3.25 seconds and the quarter-mile run in 10.5 seconds.
Winner: Non-Stock HPE1000 Hellcat Redeye
The HPE1000 Hellcat Redeye is the expected winner of the race as it's armed with 1,035 hp of max output and 948 lb-ft of peak torque – achieved by applying various upgrades and installing high-flow elements. Of course, it's not stock, but it's enough to beat the Super Stock.
