Does a car even deserve to be called a sports car if it doesn’t have a powerhouse under its hood? No, right! Let’s see what this Jag has to convince us: it is a super performer of the year. Both the models are available in four different variants, namely: base, first edition, R-dynamic and R. The most entry-level or basic model of the F-Type deploys a 2.0L inline-4, 296 HP turbocharged engine. This 296-HP can accelerate from nothing to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds and can keep up a top speed of 155 mph.

The R-dynamic flaunts a 3.0L, 380 HP, six-cylinder supercharged motor mechanism. It can race up to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and can pace up as high as 171 mph. Wait, this isn’t all, there's more! The most powerful engine that the F-Type SVR is stationed with, having not 4, not 6 but an 8-cylinder 5.0L 575 Horsepower supercharged V8 engine which takes only 3.0 seconds to pace up from 0 to 60 mph and is electronically limited to run as fast as 186 mph. If it were legal to cruise at that speed you could easily do a speed run from L.A. to Las Vegas in under 2 hours. These high performing engines come coupled with the standard automatic 8-speed transmission.

They have improved suspensions a lot to enhance the driving experience. They have sized the spoked wheels between 18 inches to 20 inches, depending on the variant. The R-dynamic comes equipped with a switchable active sports exhaust and a limited-slip differential for a confident character.

Apart from the claustrophobic seating and cargo room, the interiors of the F-type seem to have been worked upon a lot featuring accentuated driver-centric design. Premium materials like Windsor leather are used to wrap up the seats and the wheel. The seats are electric with memory and come with an option to upgrade them to either heated or cooled. A shade of chrome black is used to emphasize a sophisticated style statement. Further, the gear shift paddles are molded using aluminum. Apart from the standard R-dynamic features, the R variant has premium cabin lighting functions. The interior of both the Coupe and convertible are almost the same, the only difference being the dynamic sunroof of the convertible which can be rolled down to enjoy a sunny drive. Coming back to the seating and cargo area, the designers had a lot of room for improvement, quite literally.

The infotainment center includes a 10.0-inch touchscreen display with standard app integration features with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Apart from that one will get a premium audio system along with very basic functionalities like Bluetooth, Hotspot, a pro navigation system, and a wireless phone charging platform. Some key safety, driver-assist tech includes standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, Front and Rear Parking Aid, and so forth.

If you want a cheat code for every time it confuses you and seems to be stuck while trying to make the right choice between car models try a simple 3 question model. Questions like: What is the cost of ownership? What are the specs and features? How much will it cost to get another brand car for the same performance and make? Addressing these issues will help you make the perfect buying decision every time. Of course, apart from these you also need to consider your taste, preference, and so on.

Coming to the first question about fuel economy, depending on the engine that your preferred model has a Jag F-type can dole out efficiency figures in the cities between the range of 16-19, and for highways, it increases to 24-27. An F-type base model will cost you anywhere around $61,600 which can scale up high to a number as big as $105,900 for the R variant. Let’s have a look at the numbers that the competitors are charging. The Porsche 718 twins can cost you around $65,850, further a typical Ford Mustang GT fastback starts around as low as $35,880 again, which is not as powerful as the F-Type but still suffices to compete with the others.

The folks at Jag tried hard to create extra value for the users, but overall they still have a big scope of upgrades and changes that can be undertaken. Apart from this, we feel that the F-Type is very underrated in terms of the performance and driving experience it offers, it remains a great choice for anyone that just aches for a thrill and wants to buy something unique which is a complete head-turner whenever it arrives.
