The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the most recognizable midsize SUVs in the market today. The SUV has been around for close to 30 years and its design and functionality continue to win hearts over. If you think about the perfect family SUV, the Jeep Grand Cherokee comes close to the top of the list. The vehicle is quick enough, luxurious, and great for off-roading. For its fifth generation, Jeep is introducing a three-row SUV, which draws inspiration from the success of the three-row Jeep Wagoneer.
Jeep's new Grand Cherokee L joins a populated market of midsize SUVs with a third row, with lots of similarities to the Wagoneer. The latest addition to Jeep’s Grand Cherokee lineup is bigger than other models and more safety-focused, with lots of driver assistance features. We have done all the work for you. Without further ado, let’s dive into the details of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L.
10 Price
For a car outside the so-called luxury brands, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a masterpiece. The SUV starts at $36,995 for its base model, the Laredo, and gradually climbs up to $56,995 for the highest trim, the Summit Reserve. All models come with rear and front-wheel drive modes, and 8-speed automatic transmission. Other trims include Altitude, which goes for $36,995, Limited - $43,995, and Overland for $52,995.
Considering the features of the new vehicle, most buyers would be willing to pay for the brand name without flinching.
9 Trims
For 2021, the Jeep Grand Cherokee comes in five exciting trims, namely Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, and Summit, in that order. The higher-end models, Overland and Summit have some juicy offers like the Quadra-Drive II, which is an option for the Overland and comes installed on the Summit.
There are five terrain modes on the Grand Cherokee L for sport, auto, snow, mud/sand, and rock. However, the Summit trim has an additional hill-descent control drive mode, which can also be added to the Overland model.
8 Cargo
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a seven-seater crossover SUV. There are three rows of seats in the SUV and with the third row up, you get 17.2 cu ft of cargo space. If you fold the third row, you will have 46.9 cu ft of cargo space and with both the second and third rows folded, you will get 84.6 cu ft of cargo space.
However, the SUV is not as spacious as the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The 2021 Grand Cherokee L also has a towing capacity of 6,200 lbs.
7 Impressive Infotainment System
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles fitted the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with a Uconnect 5 10.1" touchscreen. The touchscreen can be personalized by about five users. There's also a 10" head-up screen that's full color and configurable. With the Grand Cherokee L, you can access Apple CarPlay support without plugging your phone into the vehicle.
You can also connect your Android and be able to call your contacts. The SUV is also equipped with an exclusive, luxury speaker by McIntosh for a sensational audio quality.
6 Luxurious Interior
Jeep always delivers a nice interior but they took it to another level with the 2021 Grand Cherokee L. The front seats are not just heated and ventilated but they have a massage function. Jeep also fitted the second row with a center console similar to the front seat console.
Each seat has its climate control and there are window sunshades. The polymer leather and suede used in the SUV feel soft and luxurious. The Grand Cherokee L also has enough storage space.
5 Newly Designed Exterior
Jeep describes the exterior of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L as “all-new" and we have to agree. While the SUV looks like a Jeep, it's different and sleeker. The headlights are slimmer with LED lights. At the front of the vehicle, you can see the seven-slot grille which has sensors in them.
The wheel size is 21" for the Summit model and that's the largest size of wheels ever mounted on a Grand Cherokee.
4 Warranty
When you purchase a Grand Cherokee L, Jeep signs you into their premium customer care support service– the Jeep wave, for three years. The Jeep Wave provides 24/7 support and is supposedly the most valuable customer program in America.
You don't have to worry about the first three oil changes and tire rotations because the Jeep wave covers them. There's also a five-year powertrain limited warranty and a three-year unlimited mileage warranty.
3 Safety/ Driver Assistant
The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is equipped with safety features, like forward-collision warning, rear cross-path detection, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, active lane management, adaptive cruise control, and more. Unlike its competitors, Jeep's driver assistant is not handsfree.
If you turn the driver assistant on and take your hands off the steering, it turns orange. If you continue to ignore the warning, the system engages the brakes to alert the driver.
2 Engine/Performance
Jeep equipped the SUV with two carryover engines from the previous generation. The base model of the 2021 Grand Cherokee L has a 3.5-Liter V-6 cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission that produces 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Now, the torque isn't impressive but the 5.7-Liter Hemi V-8 cylinder W/MDS engine is also available and it produces 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.
The 5.7-Liter V8 engine is upgraded and can tow a maximum of 7,200 lbs while the 3.5-Liter V6 engine can tow a maximum of 6,200 lbs.
1 Fuel Economy
For fuel economy, the V6 engine offers 19 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway, and a respectable 21 mpg combined. On the other hand, the V8 engine offers 14 mpg/city, 22 mpg/highway, and 17 mpg combined.
However, the 2021 Toyota Venza offers an estimated 40 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles per gallon on the highway and at a cheaper price, the 2021 Subaru Outback delivers 26 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway.
