Jeep has been known for its 4x4 prowess. Nonetheless, Jeep is keeping up with new technologies and even adapted electrification into its fleet through its 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology. The Wrangler – the most off-road focused Jeep – was given the honor to be the first in the lineup to have a hybrid version.
By demonstrating that hybrid tech can be employed without sacrificing its core 4x4 capabilities, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid has been awarded by the AutoTech Breakthrough Awards program as Hybrid Technology Solution of the Year.
Superior Hybrid Performance For Off-Road Drives
In the Wrangler 4xe, electrification is turned into reality by an advanced hybrid powertrain that integrates two electric motors, a 400-volt, 17-kWh battery pack, a 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine, as well as a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic gearbox. Together, they offer up to 375 hp of output and 470 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, the electric motors can instantly send torque to the wheels upon demand.
Jeep engineered Wrangler 4xe's advanced hybrid powertrain to return an estimated 50 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) with an all-electric operation of up to 25 miles. Its total driving range is nearly 400 miles. As for performance, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe can zoom from a standstill to 60 mph in just 6.0 seconds.
Three Modes With Trail Rated Badge
The Wrangler 4xe offers three E Selec modes: Hybrid, Electric and eSave. Set a default, Hybrid mode combines power from engine and electric motors. Electric mode lets the motors do the work until the battery drops to minimum charge. Meanwhile, the Wrangler 4xe is served only by the engine in eSave mode.
Since its wears Jeep's Trail Rated badge, the new Wrangler 4xe can easily conquer trails, thanks to its solid front and rear axles, full-time 4x4 two-speed transfer case, and fully articulating suspension. It's also capable of water fording up to 30 inches, as made possible by keeping all high-voltage electronics sealed and waterproof.
Award-Winning 4xe To Arrive Early 2021
The Wrangler 4xe is distinguished from its conventional siblings by Electric Blue-colored elements such as decals and interior stitching. It will arrive at global markets starting early 2021, and will be customizable with Jeep Performance Parts from Mopar.
