If you know anything about AMG, then you know that the Mercedes-AMG E53 sedan will be a big upgrade over a standard E Class. It offers more power, dons a fresher face and is available starting at around $87,000. For blending luxury and dynamics at this level, is this performance luxury sedan from the house of AMG really worth buying? YouTube channel savagegeese offers some frank and savage answers to this simple question.

V6 Power To Wheels Defines Its Character

Serving as core of the AMG E53 sedan is a 3-liter six-cylinder twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, which is notable considering that its peers still have the obligatory V8 mill as their core. Mercedes had to implement this due to carbon emissions regulations in several of its markets. The luxury carmaker counteracts this, however, by installing both a turbocharger and an all-electric compressor.  Power is then sent to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission and to an AMG-spec version of the carmaker's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

To reflect the dynamic 430 hp of max output and 384 lb-ft of peak torque, the AMG E53 sedan was restyled appropriately. It comes with more swagger and more exterior presence than the M550i. It's new looks definitely scream that it's an AMG, rather than an ordinary E-Class.

Nonetheless, the AMG E53 does have an interior that's luxurious with abundent technology. It features a new infotainment system as well as ambient lighting system that could it look like a discotheque at night. Furthermore, the cabin sports weird yet unique-looking geometric shapes, which adds to the premium nature of the interior.

Its controls, however, might need an update or refresh, which Mercedes might actually do in three years. The extended dual-screen design makes the main gauge cluster look like one massive screen, but there may be too many controls and buttons, and consolidating these would be an ideal move for Mercedes in the next few years.

A Luxury Sedan That's Better To Lease Than Buy?

The AMG E53 sedan offers a ton of driving character despite not the highest performing vehicle available on the market. It seemed like Mercedes shoved in everything they could into the AMG E53 sedan, but while recently updated, the bones of this model still had their debut in 2017.  For the upscale buyer who likes to have the latest and greatest, this may not be a car they will want to own in the next two or three years, when a the redesign arrives. Savagegeese recommendation: lease, not buy.
