Porsche has been adding lots of goodies to its upcoming 2021 Carrera and Carrera S models to further set them apart from competition. In another case of trickle-down endowment, it seems that many of the features reserved for the Turbo models have found their way into the lower trim Carrera ones. And that’s not all: Porsche has announced that a 7-speed manual gearbox will be offered on the Euro versions of the Carrera models at no extra charge. That in itself should get the enthusiasts’ blood pumping, although there is no word yet on whether U.S. models will be similarly optioned.

The manual transmission is available on the Sport Chrono package that also includes several other performance upgrades such as Porsche Torque Vectoring (PVT). PVT  enhances the car's driving dynamics and stability in conjunction with a mechanical rear differential lock, and varies the amount of torque transmitted to the rear wheels. A tire temperature indicator in the gauge cluster that was first debuted on the new 911 Turbo S is also part of the package. Other notable items include dynamic engine mounts, an automatic rev-matching function, PSM Sport mode, and the Porsche Track Precision App.

Porsche’s optional InnoDrive driver-assistance package is also available, with its adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. Further, the optional front axle lift system adds GPS capability so that it can automatically lift the nose at various locations. There are also some additional leather interior packages available for the Carrera models, as well as lightweight and noise-insulated glass that saves all of 8 lbs. and reduces road noise in the interior.

Three-Pedal Prayer

The 2021 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S models were already stellar performers before the availability of these packages, and are now further fortified. We are thrilled that Porsche has decided to offer the manual transmission option, and hope and pray they decide to send it Stateside.
