You could argue that Skoda is one of the more underrated car manufacturers in the world. Sometimes they fly under the radar, yet they produce some very good, all-round cars such as the Octavia. They love to celebrate their past, but also look to the future. And like the rest of the world, they are always looking to push the boundaries and bring out some more fantastic new models. The company is now looking to launch a new car for the Indian market, an all-new SUV called the Skoda Kushaq.

Why The Name Kushaq?

This will not be a performance car, but a very capable SUV. Skoda has explained why the car has been dubbed the Kushaq. It is because the K and Q in the name conform with the Skoda Kodiaq, Karoq, and KamiQ SUV nomenclature and Kushal meaning king or emperor in India’s ancient language of Sanskrit. The company has also teased the new car with a darkened, silhouette style image of the new Kushaq, which Skoda hopes is going to make its official debut in March 2021, and it will be their first MQB-A0-IN platform SUV specifically for the Indian market.

Skoda of course is owned by the VW parent group and offers perhaps the same top-line quality as its parent company for much lower prices and thus appeals to a much wider audience. Perhaps a headache in a way for VW but fantastic for Skoda’s global ambitions. The company says that the Indian subcontinent is a region in which they oversee all of the VW Group activities within the scope of its India 2.0 project, to encompass a model offensive of four new Skoda and VW, mid-sized cars.

Ambitious Goals

In a press release from Skoda, they say the name of the new car is to highlight the ambitious goals of the company, by underlining the heritage of India. As mentioned above, Kushaq comes from the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, which was created by the God Brahma according to Hindu mythology.

The Kushaq SUV itself is all set to combine the very best qualities that Skoda has already showcased to the world. It will feature a distinctive design of its own and aim to offer unrivaled comfort and safety, and be a further step up from its counterparts available in other regions of the world.
