Middle-weight motorcycles contribute to the most heated segment right now. These are nimble, nearly as powerful compared to liter-class offerings, and most importantly, are compact. The advantage it has over its elders in terms of usability and practicality is what makes this the hotspot among motorcyclists out there.

Manufacturers like Suzuki and Honda already have a stronghold in this segment with their long-standing offerings. But now, Triumph has brought in their share of fun to this segment with the all-new 2021 Trident 660. The middle-weight segment is mostly composed of twin-cylinder offerings to save weight and reduce the size. But Triumph has made a fresh turn of events with its heavily re-engineered Inline-3 that has been derived from the older Street Triple S.

The newest roadster in town is an ode to the original Triumph Trident that was designed by Bert Hopwood and Doug Hele in 1968. This oldie was also one of the most technically advanced motorcycles of the late 60s. Triumph has followed right in the original Trident's footsteps and has yet again delivered a well-rounded and very distinctive middle-weight offering. It takes the scuffle to the likes of Yamaha MT09, Kawasaki Z650, and Honda CBR650R.

The 2021 Triumph Trident 660 is the cheapest offering from the British manufacturer at $7,995 and is powered by an 81 hp Inline-Triple.

Triumph motorcycles have made their name through Moto2 and the iconic Inline-triple engine. For those of you who are not so well-versed on the mechanical aspects of it, it's simply the whine that wins over everything else. Triumph has also used this iconic engine as the base for the 2021 Trident. It is not a new engine as it is a heavily reworked version of the old Daytona 675 engine.

But it has gone through some detailed revamp and changed to be made worthy of the Trident nameplate. It is a 600cc 12-valve DOHC inline-triple that pumps out 81 hp @ 10,250 rpm and 47 lb-ft @ 6,250 rpm. The torque and power curve is beginner-friendly with 90% of it being available throughout the rev-band. It is coupled to a 6-Speed Assist-and Slipper wet clutch gearbox that has proved its mettle in the older Street Triple.

Nimble, Compact, And A Whole Lot Fun To Ride Around

Trust us when we say that this is the most-fun-to-ride motorcycle from Triumph, apart from being the cheapest and equally confidence-inspiring. The engineers at Triumph have done a phenomenal job at fine-tuning its structure to provide for that perfect poise for all-rideability. It comes with an electronic throttle that also helps it pack two ride modes - Road and Rain.

Being a roadster, this motorcycle doesn't have to try hard to be compact. It just is an easy-g0 motorcycle that doesn't need you to take a 10-second class. Despite being of such compact proportions, the rider's triangle is quite roomy and well catered to for both city and highway hoons. The Triumph Trident is a motorcycle that can do top speeds of 130 mph all day long, and more.

The design language is a fresh take from Triumph and it gives out a vibe much like those drool-worthy Italian motorcycles, especially the Brutale 800RR. Clearly, the Italians do it with far more drama, but the Brits are not far off with the Trident. And there actually is an Italian connection to it, as the 2021 Trident is designed by Italian Designer Rodolfo Frascoli who was also the mind behind the new Triumph Tiger 900.

He has gone all retro with certain design cues but has beautifully integrated it into a modern, muscular yet minimal form factor. The broad tank is what gives its macho look and the abstract "Triumph" branding is a fresh take, and we kinda dig it. the rear end takes us back to the 90s roadsters which were all about clean-swept ends. The exposed round headlamp crowned with a round LCD instrument cluster has a design order going through. Moreover the color options made it look dapper, which includes - Crystal White, Sapphire Black, Matte Jet Black-and-Silver Ice, and Silver Ice Diablo Red.

This is one of the most well-equipped motorcycles in its class and Triumph has shot it out of the pavilion for the Trident. They sure know to make a mark and is clearly evident from the new steel tube chassis that has been introduced specifically for the Trident. Showa takes care of the suspension system and comes with upside-down non-adjustable 41mm forks upfront. The rear gets a pre-load adjustable mono-shock with 5.23 in. of travel.

The instrument cluster might look minimal but is impressively well detailed. Nissin takes care of braking hardware with twin 310mm discs with 2-piston calipers up front and a 255-mm disc with a single-piston at the rear and gets standard ABS. It gets 17-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Road 5 tires.

It gets an optional slipper clutch but an assist-and-slipper clutch is standard. It gets switchable traction control integrated into the 2 ride modes, all of which can be interacted via the all-new instrument cluster that has the cutest color TFT display layout. An additional 'My Triumph' Connectivity system helps you connect your smartphone. All LED lighting adds to its already-lit character!
