Honda has released a brief, 12-second teaser video that provides a glimpse at the design of the upcoming 2022 Acura NSX Type S, one of the latest developments in the world of supercars. Acura has promised "more power, quicker acceleration, sharper handling and a more emotional driving experience." Production of the NSX Type S will be restricted to just 350 cars and is expected to immediately be regarded amongst other collectible and sought after Acuras of the past such as the 1999 NSX Zanardi. The NSX Type S will make its official debut globally at Monterey Car Week on August 12.

A First In The NSX's History

This debut will mark the first time that an NSX Type S will be offered for sale outside of Japan by Acura, with 300 of the total 350 units produced being available for purchase in the United States. Orders for the NSX Type S will also begin the same day as its global debut, August 12th.

All 2022 NSX Type S models will be powered by a specialized configuration of a twin-turbo V6 and the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD drivetrain, coming from the Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio. Despite 2022 being the final year of production for this iconic supercar, Acura has assured fans and enthusiasts that they're not abandoning them; the brand plans to reimagine their approach to performance vehicles for the future. Acura included in the press release for the new NSX Type S that the brand will continue to explore sports cars as the brand moves into their electric future. John Ikeda, Vice President and Acura Brand Officer, said that: "Acura is a performance brand, a company of enthusiasts, and we will continue moving forward, actively investigating what the next generation of sports cars should be in an electrified era."

Soon, the 2022 NSX Type S will begin a new chapter for the nameplate, which already has a storied past in its short lifespan. Following its 2016 launch, it earned such accolades as Road & Track's "Performance Car of the Year" and was an Automobile Magazine "All Star" winner. The NSX was a force on the racetrack, with the NSX GT3 Evo winning the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship titles in the GTD class in both 2019 and 2020.

The NSX is the third Type S model to be introduced by Acura this year, along with the TLX Type S sport sedan and the yet to be released MDX Type S SUV. With a supercar, a sedan, and a three row SUV, the Type S line is quickly expanding its diversity and catering to those who crave Acura's unique performance characteristics in a variety of configurations.
